Who We Are :
Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) is the provider of mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder services for children and adults in Chesterfield County. Chester House provides day programming, employment services (Individual Placement and Supports model), and transportation for adults with serious mental illness. Our transportation team is a caring group of staff, and we are looking for a Van Driver. We work together as a team to support each other daily. If this is your passion, then come join our team!
Minimum Education and Experience :
High school diploma or GED; one year of experience driving a multi-passenger vehicle preferred or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience driving a large passenger van and working with people with disabilities preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of safe driving practices and techniques; of basic vehicle maintenance. Ability to operate a multi-passenger vehicle; to operate a passenger-carrying van in a safe and efficient manner; to interact with passengers in a courteous and helpful manner; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to interact with a variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds and of varying ages; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
Additional Requirements :
Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
This position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. The use of medical marijuana for this position is prohibited.Duties include but are not limited to the following:
• Transport individuals with developmental disabilities to and from work sites;
• Assist non-ambulatory passengers in loading and unloading utilizing a wheelchair lift;
• Assist regularly assigned routes and schedules; immediately report delays or no-show cancellations to dispatch;
• Maintain order while transporting passengers; monitors interactions, intervenes as necessary;
• Perform pre-trip vehicle inspections (i.e. fluid levels, tire wear and pressure, lights);
• Inspect general vehicle maintenance; reports and/or coordinates maintenance need;
• Follow emergency procedures in the event of accident or breakdown;
• Maintain mileage, trip logs and other related records; and
• Perform other work as required.
