Definition of Class
- Operator of delivery van or other type of light automotive equipment.
Nature of Work
- Responsible for the delivery of library materials between member libraries of the Northwest District in a safe, efficient, and helpful manner. This is a District Aid position funded through the Northwest District Negotiated Agreement, which is revisited annually.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Primary Responsibilities
- Pick up and deliver library materials and resources to designated locations throughout Erie and Crawford counties, including branches and partner libraries.
- Load and unload materials and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain an organized and secure transport process for all materials.
- Follow an established delivery schedule while adapting to weather, detours, or temporary site closures.
- Vehicle & Equipment Maintenance
- Inspect vehicles regularly and report maintenance needs (oil changes, tire wear, inspection dates, etc.).
- Keep vehicles clean (interior and exterior) and maintain an orderly garage space.
- Perform minor vehicle repairs as needed and approved by supervisor.
- Transport vehicles to scheduled maintenance appointments.
- Maintain inventory of delivery supplies and notify supervisor when reordering is needed.
- Communication & Other Expectations
- Accurately track and submit weekly delivery statistics via an online system.
- Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with supervisors, library staff, site staff, and fellow drivers through a variety of formats such as in-person, phone, or email.
- Handles site complaints and minor issues; Reports issues, complaints, or disturbances promptly, both verbally and in writing.
- Provide professional, courteous customer service at all locations.
- Maybe be asked to perform limited clerical duties on occasion if a vehicle is not available, weather suspends routes, or other situation arises.

- Must understand basic maintenance needs of vehicles and have working knowledge of current technology and office equipment
- Must be able to log information necessary to keep proper records.
- Must be reliable and able to maintain schedule without supervision.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must have a Valid Driver's License
- Must be able to Lift a Minimum of 50 lbs on a Regular Basis
Conditions Of Employment
- The selected candidate will be pre-employment required to obtain, at their own expense, 3 forms of clearance, including PA State Police Criminal History Record Check; PA Child Abuse History; and FBI Criminal History Background Check, including finger printing.
