Job summary

Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware is seeking a part-time van driver to transport club members to and from school and assist with after-school activities. The role requires maintaining a safe, violation-free driving record and performing daily vehicle inspections.

Responsibilities include pre- and post-trip checks, logging van usage, assisting with snack service, and supporting dismissal procedures while complying with all regulations.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license with 3–5 points max; CDL preferred.
  • Ability to pass FBI and state background checks per regulations.
  • Experience transporting children and working in licensed childcare preferred.

For over 90 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware has impacted thousands of lives across Delaware. We are the largest licensed provider of childcare in Delaware and the only statewide Boys & Girls Club in the nation.

Each and everyday girls and boys are left to find their own recreation and companionship. An increasing number of kids are at home with no adult care or supervision. Young people need to know they have a place in their community where they can go. Clubs provide a safe haven for youth, allow them to meet with friends and be a part of positive peer groups. Club programs teach life skills, conflict resolution and focus on the development of character. Clubs also provide members with positive role models and a nurturing environment that help improve decision‑making skills.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Program Director, the van driver is assigned to transport club members to and from school.

Essential Functions:
  • Operates van on schedule and within designated route.
  • Have and maintain a safe and violation free driving record.
  • Assistance serving snack for our after‑school program and other clerical duties related accompanying club members for dismissal procedures.
  • Maintain vehicle tracking logs on daily basis.
  • Operates van in a safe manner, abiding by all federal, state, local and company regulations.
  • Promptly reports emergencies, accidents, injuries, missing articles, damage, engineering items and safety hazards to management. Reports any deviations from policies, procedures, brand standards and regulations to management.
  • Advise club director on safety and route improvements, reports accidents and hazards as necessary.
  • Performs daily inspection of vehicles and records results on a daily checklist to include checking and verifying cleanliness, maintenance and safety features of vehicle.
  • Conducts pre‑trip vehicle inspections, performs vehicle walk through and walk arounds before and after each trip.
  • Implement safety procedures with their Program Director
  • Maintain van logs and all other required paperwork related to the use of club vehicles.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must possess a valid driver’s License for at least 3 years and no more than 5 points on driving record; CDL preferred.
  • Must be able to pass an FBI clearance, State of Delaware Criminal History Background Check, National and State Sexual Abuse Registry check, and National and State Child Abuse Registry Check per DelaCare regulations.
  • Ability to operate a 10 passenger van
  • An understanding of all current state and local regulations
  • Flexibility as to the hours and schedule of work
  • Experience transporting children preferred.
  • Experience working in a licensed childcare facility preferred.
Working Conditions:
  • Environmental and working conditions vary from indoors to outdoors; various meeting locations in and out of the Club; occasional statewide travel (e.g., training).
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Maintain a high energy level.
  • Regularly speak clearly and hear the spoken word.
  • Frequently lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 25 pounds when preparing rooms for activities.
  • Typically bends, stoops, walks and sometimes runs on a regular basis while interacting with children in various activities throughout the day.

-Monday- Fridaysplit shift6:30am-9am & 230pm-430pm
