Job summary

Mans Lumber & Home in Canton, MI seeks a Chauffeur Delivery Expert to safely transport lumber and building materials to customers on local routes, with evenings at home and a strong emphasis on safety. You will operate company vehicles, load and unload materials, and ensure timely deliveries.

You will inspect the vehicle, maintain logs, coordinate with dispatch, and comply with DOT/ICC regulations. This is a full-time role offering opportunities for growth within a long-standing, family-owned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2+ years driving tractor-trailer or large truck.
  • Proficient with GPS and routing systems.
  • Clean driving record with no violations.
  • Able to pass background check and drug test.
  • Comfortable maneuvering and parking a tractor-trailer.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment safely.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and safely drive the assigned delivery vehicle.
  • Transport lumber and materials locally and ensure on-time delivery.
  • Safely unload materials and secure contents for transport.
  • Obtain signatures or scans to confirm deliveries and update logs.
  • Assist warehouse staff and customers with loading/unloading.
  • Communicate with dispatch to coordinate routes and updates.
  • Perform vehicle inspections and report maintenance needs.
  • Maintain detailed driving and delivery logs.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As a Chauffeur Delivery Expert, you will be responsible for transporting and delivering products and materials to our awesome customers! You will safely and efficiently transport lumber and building materials, locally (so you will be home each evening), to the assigned destination using company vehicles and equipment.

THE NITTY GRITTY
  • Fully understand how to operate and safely drive your assigned delivery vehicle – this one is important
  • Transport lumber and materials from place of origin to assigned destination, mapping the route to ensure timely deliveries
    • Safely and efficiently handle and unload lumber and materials at selected destinations
    • Ensure contents are properly secured in box truck to prevent breakage or damage
  • Pick-up loads and organize lumber in an ordered, logical manner
  • Obtain signatures or warehouse scans to confirm and complete deliveries with clients
  • Assist warehouse staff and customers with loading and unloading processes
  • Communicate with dispatch as needed
  • Confirm contents of each shipment load matches the Bistrack purchasing document
  • Perform inspections of your vehicle prior to and following each trip
  • Check weather conditions and road reports before departure
  • Maintain and service vehicle as needed (refuel, change oil, tire pressure, repairs, etc.); notify managers of any major maintenance or delivery issues encountered
  • Follow processes to confirm all product is being delivered and follow protocol when an item is missing, damaged, or refused
  • Maintain detailed driving and delivery logs
  • Obey all applicable traffic laws and drive according to the weather/road conditions
  • Comply with ICC and DOT regulations, making safety a priority always
WHAT YOU NEED

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or FED equivalent
  • 2+ years proven experience driving a tractor-trailer or large truck, preferred
  • Proficient using GPS and other routing systems
  • Clean driving record with no moving violations
  • Must pass a background check and drug test
  • Skilled and confident driverComfortable maneuvering and parking a tractor-trailer
  • Able to operate an electric lift, hand trucks, pallet jacks, etc.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a warehouse setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and bar code scanners.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is a largely labor-intensive role, and qualified candidates will be required to use their arms, hands, legs and back regularly. This role would also require the ability to lift, bend, walk and stand as necessary, as well lifting at least 80 pounds consistently. May be subject to weather elements from time to time.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some Saturday work will also be required during peak season (May - October).
