Summary Description

Cathcart Rail, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, is a leading freight rail services and transportation company. We employ nearly 1,000 employees in more than 100 locations in 33 states and operate the largest railcar services network in the industry, encompassing 18 large railcar repair facilities and more than 75 field services locations in addition to a rail services division that operates three short line railroads and a dozen contract switching and transloading sites.

Responsibilities
  • Interpret work orders to perform valve removal and repairs.
  • Coordinate and complete repairs efficiently within assigned hours.
  • Notify supervisor of materials or equipment needs.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors.
  • Follow all safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to quality programs and regulations, including AAR and FRA standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, including special projects.
Qualifications
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and communicating in English.
  • Ability to learn operational details and pass relevant exams.
  • Ability to follow recordkeeping and safety policies.
  • Capable of working outdoors in various weather conditions around heavy equipment and railcars.
  • Knowledge of tools and equipment for safe entry and repair work.
  • Ability to multitask with attention to detail.
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Willingness to wear and maintain PPE.
Physical Demands & Work Environment

This role involves physical, hands-on work in outdoor conditions, including working around moving machinery, in confined spaces, and at heights. Proper body mechanics and safety practices are essential. Tools used include impact wrenches, grinders, and cutting equipment. Tasks may involve climbing, stooping, lifting, and working in various environmental conditions.
