Job summary

Murphy Oil is seeking a Valve Technician in its Texas valve shop to assemble (disassemble) valves and packing cases and inspect all items that come into the shop.

You will test valves and packing cases per company procedures, adhere to all policies, and participate in Lean and 5S initiatives while maintaining safety and quality standards. This role requires standing for long periods, occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, and reading mic measurements with dial calipers to ensure tight tolerances.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or related job experience.
• Able to read O.D. and depth mic measurements with dial calipers.
• Ability to interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions.

Responsibilities

• Assemble (disassembly) valves/packing cases correctly and in a timely manner.
• Test all valves and packing cases according to company procedures.
• Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
• Participate in company Lean and 5S initiatives.

Skills

• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Education and Experience

• HS diploma or related job experience.
• Be able to read O.D. and depths mics along with dial calipers.

Mental/Visual/Physical Effort

• Regularly required to stand for long periods of time.
• Required to use hands to finger, handle, or feet.
• Occasionally required to sit.
• Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Material Hazards

Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration.
