Job summary

Massachusetts Water Resources Authority seeks a seasoned supervisor to lead a crew in inspecting, operating, maintaining, and repairing water valves and related facilities across the MWRA system. You’ll perform live mains taps and oversee installation activities with precision and safety.

The role includes planning, reporting, and ensuring compliant operations. Posting period and work schedule are standard, with on-call rotations and potential overtime in emergencies.

Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in installation, maintenance, and repair of Water Distribution Valves and Regulators.
  • At least three (3) years in a supervisory capacity; MWRA supervisory training may substitute.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Massachusetts Drinking Water Supply Facilities Certified Grade 2D Full Operators License.
  • A valid Class D Motor Vehicle Drivers License.
  • Regular, on-call rotations. May be required to work overtime in extended workday and emergency situations.
  • This position has been designated as essential in emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the preparation of major water system operations plan, including work sequencing, scheduling and cost estimating.
  • Carries out written work and operation plans for each water system operations plan.
  • Prepares daily and weekly job status and time utilization reports to track execution of written work plan.
  • Utilizes computer technology and CMMS software to perform work order reporting and planning.
  • Supervises operation and maintenance of valves to empty, chlorinate, flush, and place into service pipelines.
  • Supervises work crew in the exercising, maintenance, repair or alteration of valves and related components.
  • Drafts sketches and drawings of work to be performed and final sketches after completion.
  • Ensures safety policies are followed and productivity is tracked.
