A position has been declared open in the Weber School District at Valley View Elementary for a Mild/Moderate Special Education Paraeducator. This position is for 5.75 hours per day, 180 days (9 months) per year. This position is paid according to Lane 4B of the Paraprofessionals Salary Schedule. This position starts the upcoming 2025-2026 school year (note start date).

Purpose Statement:
The job of Special Education Mild/Moderate Elementary Paraeducator is established to assist assigned teaching personnel in supervising and instructing special education students; perform classroom clerical tasks; and assist students with personal care and health needs, while developing their academic, daily living, and behavioral skills.
Duties and Responsibilities (not exhaustive):
- Communicates with parents to schedule meetings and relay messages for special education teachers.
- Assists in maintaining students' files/records to document activities and provide reliable information.
- Monitors individual students in classrooms, school, and community to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
- Performs record-keeping and clerical functions (e.g., scheduling, copying) to support teachers and administrators.
- Adapts to changing work priorities, demonstrating tact, courtesy, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Supports classroom work under the teacher's direction to reinforce lesson plans.
- Supports students in various settings, including special education classrooms, general education classrooms, and one-on-one support.
- Provides accommodations such as reading tests aloud, scribing, alternative assessment locations, and check-in/check-out support.
- Supports classroom teachers in collecting data.
- Assists other personnel as needed to support their work activities.
- Implements instructional behavioral programs under teacher supervision to improve students' academic success.
- Assists with daily living skills, such as toileting, changing diapers, feeding, and personal hygiene, on an occasional basis.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the building administrator or special education department for the benefit of students.
- Regular attendance is critical.
Qualifications:
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to assume and maintain various postures (kneeling, squatting, bending, standing, sitting) for extended periods.
- Safely manage physically or verbally aggressive students.
- Occasionally lift up to 60 lbs. to 36 inches; frequently lift up to 25 lbs. to 36 inches.
- Get into and out of full-size 8-passenger vans.
- Sanitize and clean equipment and assistive devices.
- Remain calm and follow safety procedures during emergencies.
- Walk students to bus stops in inclement weather and train students to use public transportation.
- Willing to participate in and utilize MANDT training.
- May work with bio-hazards, including blood-borne pathogens and cleaning/disinfecting materials.
Experience/Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Post-secondary education preferred.
- ParaPro Praxis (if at a Title I school).
- Previous related experience preferred.
