Job summary

Aviso, LLC in Fremont, CA seeks a Mechanical Pump Technician to join a small, seasoned team. You will learn to troubleshoot, disassemble, rebuild, test, and refurbish vacuum pumps and Roots Blowers, working closely with the Department Lead.

As you progress through structured phases, you’ll take ownership of repair workflows, manage inventory, and aim for eventual department leadership while upholding safety and high-quality standards in a collaborative shop.

Qualifications

  • 3 to 5+ years of hands-on experience troubleshooting, tearing down, and rebuilding Mechanical Vacuum Pumps and Roots Blowers.
  • Direct experience servicing equipment from major OEMs.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude from automotive/industrial backgrounds encouraged.
  • Proficiency with common shop tools including belt sander, drill press, wire wheel, and grinder.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance (51+ pounds with assistance).

  • Troubleshoot & Diagnose: Evaluate incoming equipment for mechanical failures, wear, or performance issues.
  • Disassembly & Prep: Tear down pumps and Roots Blowers and clean all parts.
  • Rebuild & Reassemble: Replace defective parts and reassemble to tolerances.
  • Testing & Quality Control: Test pumps to meet specifications.
  • Inventory Maintenance: Repair and refurbish shelf pumps.
  • Safety & Environment: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

We're seeking a trusted leader in vacuum technology, manufacturing, and equipment repair, is seeking a dedicated Mechanical Pump Technician to join their small, specialized department. Unlike large, impersonal corporations, they pride themselves on a close-knit, highly collaborative team culture where every employee's contribution is visible and valued. This is a unique, long-term opportunity with a built-in succession plan. You will work directly alongside the veteran Department Lead to learn specialized processes, master equipment, and eventually transition into the leadership role for the department

The Opportunity & Career Path

This is a career-defining opportunity within a small, stable team. As the department lead transitions to a 3-day workweek, he will act as your direct personal mentor and trainer.

  • Phase 1 (Months 1-12): Master the technical nuances of troubleshooting, rebuilding, and testing various vacuum pumps and Roots Blowers while building a solid foundation in daily operations.
  • Phase 2 (Year 2+): Take ownership of standard customer repair workflows and manage shop shelf inventory.
  • Phase 3 (Long-Term): Assume full management of the department, maintaining high standards of quality and service as the lead transitions out of the role.
Daily Tasks & Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot & Diagnose: Evaluate incoming equipment to identify mechanical failures, wear, or performance issues.
  • Disassembly & Prep: Carefully tear down various manufacturers' mechanical vacuum pumps (oil-lubricated belt-driven and direct drive) and Roots Blowers, thoroughly cleaning all component parts.
  • Rebuild & Reassemble: Replace defective parts, seals, bearings, and gaskets. Reassemble systems according to strict manufacturer tolerances.
  • Testing & Quality Control: Conduct comprehensive testing on completed pumps to ensure they meet or exceed strict product performance specifications.
  • Inventory Maintenance: Repair and refurbish shelf inventory mechanical pumps to support customer sales.
  • Safety & Environment: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Consistently practice safe work habits, including the mandatory use of protective masks, eye shields, and ear guards.
Abilities & Experience Required
  • Industry Experience (Highly Preferred): 3 to 5+ years of specific hands-on experience troubleshooting, tearing down, and rebuilding Mechanical Vacuum Pumps and/or Roots Blowers.
  • Target Industry OEM Backgrounds: Direct experience servicing equipment from major manufacturers
  • Alternative Mechanical Backgrounds: If direct vacuum industry experience is not present, candidates with strong mechanical aptitude from environments like automotive engine rebuilding, motorcycle repair, industrial rotating equipment, or compressor maintenance are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Shop Tool Proficiency: Familiarity with standard shop tools, as well as specific experience operating a belt sander, drill press, wire wheel, and grinder.
  • Electrical Skills: Ability to successfully wire single-phase and three-phase motors.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds assistance-free, and 51+ pounds with assistance.
