Job description

We are currently seeking a talented Vactor Truck Operator for our waste disposal company in Austin! This is a full-time, permanent position with significant earning potential.

Your primary responsibility is to safely operate a combo unit and maintain its systems. You will be responsible for the transportation and cleaning of sewer services, as well as loading and offloading non-hazardous liquids at various locations.

This is a hands-on driving opportunity - we are seeking drivers that are comfortable working systems, physically assisting with tasks at target sites and facilities, and have familiarity with heavy equipment outside of driving. Drivers must be comfortable with customer interface, living in the solution, and taking action.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Include:

  1. Follow removal instructions, and maintain compliance with all DOT, company, and customer safety and operational policies and procedures.
  2. Properly load and unload waste at various locations in a professional, courteous, timely, safe, and efficient manner.
  3. Connect and disconnect hoses, operating pumps and valves for loading and unloading.
  4. Ensure proper load securement of any hoses or other equipment.
  5. Complete manifests, logs, and other paperwork accurately and timely.
  6. Complete a daily pre-trip and post-trip using the electronic DVIR system.
  7. Adhere to company policies as it relates to loading non-hazardous materials ONLY.
  8. Knowledge of all applicable DOT rules and regulations; and all job-related Company, Local, State, and Federal requirements, including OSHA safety rules and regulations.
  9. Ability to be cross-trained to operate other CMVs within license class and endorsements.

Requirements:

  1. MUST HAVE Current CDL Class A/B License + Tanker Endorsement.
  2. MUST HAVE 3+ years of commercial truck driving experience.
  3. MUST HAVE 1.5+ years of experience in Class 8 truck.
  4. MUST HAVE 1.5 years of experience in Vactor truck operations.
  5. Hydro jetting and sewer cleaning service experience, highly preferred.
  6. Waste industry experience or similar, preferred.
  7. Medically and professionally qualified to operate a commercial motor vehicle (including passing of drug screen, MVR, PSP, Clearinghouse & other background requirements).
  8. Must be able to frequently lift up to 100 lbs.
  9. Vision abilities required include close, distance, and peripheral vision.
  10. Repetitive movements that may include wrists, hands, or fingers.
  11. Frequently operate truck valves, hoses, and connection tools requiring gross and fine motor skills.
  12. Must possess the ability to identify mechanical problems of assigned equipment, perform minor mechanical repair, and/or communicate such problems to necessary personnel for speedy repairs.
  13. Ability to understand and follow specific procedures and directions; unwilling to cut corners.

Desired Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  1. Clear understanding of various vacuum units and their operation.
  2. Clear understanding of non-hazardous waste.
  3. Ability to understand and follow specific procedures and directions; unwilling to cut corners.
  4. 10-Speed Manual Transmission, preferred.
  5. CMV Inspection and Maintenance.

Additional Position Scope:

  • Highly labor-intensive position.
  • Frequently climb ladders and work from stationary platforms at elevated heights.
  • New, modern equipment.
  • Exposure to dirt, odors, noise, or similar elements.
  • Exposure to confined spaces – MUST BE CERTIFIED.
  • Confined space entry in tanks, pits, trenches, and other areas that may include climbing, standing, and working in awkward positions.
