Fixed Term

Founded in 1853, the University of Melbourne is Australia’s #1 university and is consistently ranked amongst the leading universities in the world. We are proud of our people, our commitment to research and teaching excellence, and our global engagement.

About the Digital Preservation Coalition

With a recently expanded office in Melbourne, the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is a sector-making membership-led charity which is building a welcoming and inclusive global community to bring about a sustainable future for our digital assets.

About the Role

As Head of the DPC, Australasia and Asia-Pacific you will lead, implement and refine the DPC’s operations. You will extend our current network of members and partners, and build a small specialist team to support a dynamic and supportive stakeholder community. You will draw upon and extend the competencies of the DPC’s team globally for mutual benefit. You will use the insights gained from an initial pilot phase to turn a project into a permanent presence.

In this expanded role, you will support a wide range of stakeholders in diverse tasks across the DPC membership, from hands-on BAU responsibilities to unique project work supporting a world-wide network. As the operation grows, you will build and mentor a team, representing the values and purposes of the DPC.

Recruited to the University of Melbourne you will monitor and sustain a collaborative Memorandum of Understanding and Management Protocol between the DPC and the University.

In a typical week at work, you may:

Plan, deliver and report on a programme of support for the digital preservation community and DPC members in Australasia and Asia Pacific

Be an independent advocate for digital preservation in public policy and in member institutions

Liaise with the global digital preservation community, communicating good practice and amplifying the successes of institutions in Australasia and Asia Pacific

Provide networking and subject specialist advice for digital preservation practitioners

Please note, this is a fixed-term position available until March 2023.

About You

You be a flexible and collaborative leader supporting members and building the DPC’s reputation. You will be a strong communicator with an influential presence. You will be trusted with a high degree of autonomy, delegated to respond to challenges and opportunities within a defined strategic framework. You will have proven experience in digital preservation, lending credibility to the passion and professionalism that you bring to the role.

Ideally, you will further have:

A postgraduate degree level education or combination of relevant experience and/or education/training

A strong understanding of digital preservation or related field

Demonstrated experience in working collaboratively and as part of a community

A working knowledge of the challenges faced by digital preservation practitioners in Australasia

The ability to identify improvement opportunities with a strategic focus
