Vacancy for Digital Archivist at Indiana University Libraries

Reporting to the Director of University Archives and Special Collections, the Digital Archivist leads and supports the University’s efforts to acquire, describe, preserve, and provide access to born-digital university records and papers of IU faculty, staff, and alumni. The Digital Archivist will work collaboratively with the Director, the University Records Manager, Library Technologies staff, and university partners to create workflows for ingestion, appraisal, preservation, processing, description, and access to born-digital records throughout the university system. The Digital Archivist will take a leadership role in the acquisition and management of born-digital records within the university records management program and collection development process, maintaining regular communication with university staff and donors.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  1. Develop and implement policies and procedures that facilitate the acquisition, preservation, arrangement, description, and access to born-digital materials in accordance with emerging standards and best practices.
  2. In collaboration with the University Records Manager, provide guidance and assistance to university offices in developing, implementing, and improving recordkeeping systems and practices related to the management and preservation of electronic records.
  3. Provide guidance and assistance to university offices and donors on transfers of born digital records and papers.
  4. Work with libraries and university partners to assess, select, and implement digital preservation systems.
  5. Develop documentation and workflows for processing hybrid and born-digital collections and make them available for research.
  6. Maintain documentation for and manage IU Libraries' University Archives DSpace instance and Archive-It accounts; lead a system-wide working group to provide guidance and support to regional campus archivists working with these systems.
  7. Perform regular public service responsibilities.
  8. Serve on IU Libraries and university committees as appropriate and actively contribute and represent Indiana University through professional engagement and research.
