Job summary

i3 is seeking a Software Systems Engineer for the Tactical Software and Autonomy Solutions team in Huntsville, AL. The role requires 5+ years of experience and DoD-focused software systems engineering, including SysML/UML modeling with MBSE tools such as Cameo.

You will work onsite with government and contractor teams to develop, review, and integrate systems engineering artifacts, planning and coordinating across multiple DoD projects involving diverse unmanned platforms.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college; ABET preferred.
  • 5+ years of professional software systems engineering experience.
  • Must be located in or willing to relocate to Huntsville, AL.
  • Experience with SysML/UML modeling and MBSE tooling (Cameo).
  • Experience on DoD-related software efforts and security clearances.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Government Program Management and multiple software teams to meet DoD requirements.
  • Develop and review systems engineering artifacts; facilitate meetings and interface with customers.
  • Engage engineers and customers to craft plans and execute system designs for UxS platforms.
  • Document task planning, reviews, and due-outs to ensure completion.

Job description

The Tactical Software and Autonomy Solutions (TSAS) team at i3 supports USSOCOM Headquarters in developing cutting-edge autonomy software architectures to distribute autonomous control across a diverse assortment of uncrewed air, ground, surface, and subsurface platforms. The team is seeking a Software Systems Engineer with 5+ years of professional experience to assist in development and review of software and systems engineering artifacts during the execution of cutting-edge UxS system development projects at i3 in support of various DoD customers.

Responsibilities
  • The candidate will work onsite with a Government Program Management team to organize and facilitate communications across multiple interconnected systems engineering and software teams executing work toward several DoD customer requirements.
  • The candidate will participate in the development and review of systems engineering products, organize meetings, provide subject matter expertise support to customers and software engineering teams, and interface with government customers and contractor teams to ensure overall team success on the project.
  • Candidate will engage with a wide variety of engineers and customers to develop collaborative plans and schedules and execute systems design in support of collaboration among a variety of UxS platforms.
  • Candidate will write and conduct reviews of comprehensive task planning documentation for upcoming feature development.
  • Candidate will document due outs discussed during meetings and provide reminders to the teams to ensure completion of tasks.
  • Candidate will help interface between customers, vendor partners, and teams executing tasks.
Education, Experience and Required skills
  • Have a Bachelor of Science degree (or advanced degree) from an accredited college (ABET preferred).
  • 5+ years of professional experience
  • Candidate must be located in, or willing to relocate to the Huntsville, AL area.
  • Candidate must be a team player and be creative, adaptive, and excited to learn.
  • Must have experience working on software engineering teams.
  • Candidate must have experience establishing good configuration management and product lifecycle practices.
  • Candidate must have experience with Cameo and MBSE modeling practices
  • Candidate must have experience using modeling tools to model complex systems using SysML, and/or UML.
  • Candidate must have experience developing software products on DoD related efforts.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
  • Position Location Onsite in Huntsville, AL
  • CONUS Travel required Up to 20%
Preferred Experience/Skills
  • Experience working in a DoD environment.
  • Experience interfacing with customers.
  • Experience with requirements development and management.
  • Experience with software development.
  • Familiarity with Digital Engineering Environments (DEE) for development, testing and deployment of systems.
  • Familiarity with Modeling and Simulation (M&S) tools and concepts.
  • INCOSE SEP or OCSMP Certification
  • Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, and SharePoint.
  • Familiarity with SAFe Agile processes.
  • Experience with Linux is a plus.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies like docker, qemu, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with single board computers (Raspberry Pi, NVIDIA Jetson, etc.).
  • Experience with remote controlled boats, vehicles, or planes is a plus.
  • Familiarity with UxS command and control message formats (ex. STANAG-4586, UCI, MAVLink).
  • Experience with next generation C2 architectures and data sets for the DoD.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Regular i3 hours are 800 a.m. - 500 p.m. Monday-Friday, however, additional hours may be required on occasion. Regular and punctual attendance is required.
