Job summary

Qualifications

• High School diploma with 8 years of EOD/UXO experience.
• Formal UXO training or EOD course completion required; NAVSCOLEOD or foreign equivalents welcomed.
• Underwater detection training and basic NAVSCOLEOD prerequisites preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and perform on-site demilitarization of MEC and handling of demolition materials.
• Prepare an explosives storage plan per applicable guidance.
• Prepare required UXO munitions response actions and range maintenance reports.
• Prepare SOPs for on-site munitions responses and range clearance activities.
• Assist in preparing risk and hazards analyses.
• Conduct daily site safety briefings.
• Supervise all on-site UXO-related operations.
• Inspect, certify and verify MPPEH as safe or as to explosive hazard for transfer or DoD release.

Job description

The UXO Technician III identifies and classifies unexploded ordnance (UXO) and discarded military munitions (DMM) and their fuses as well as excavating and moving munitions acceptable for movement.The UXO Technician III must be able to perform the responsibilities of UXO Sweep Personnel, UXO Technician I and UXO Technician II.

Expected Outcomes

• Supervise and perform the on-site demilitarization of Munitions of Explosive Concern (MEC) and handling of demolition materials.
• Prepare an explosives storage plan per all applicable guidance.

• Prepare standard operating procedures for on-site munitions responses and for range clearance activities
• Assist in the preparation of risk and hazards analyses
• Conduct daily site safety briefings
• Supervise the conduct of all on-site UXO-related operations
• Inspect, certify and verify Materials Potentially Presenting an Explosive Hazard (MPPEH) as safe, or as to the explosive hazard it may present for transfer within Department of Defense (DoD) or release from DoD control per current policies and standards.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• High School diploma plus 8 years prior military EOD and/or commercial UXO experience in munitions response actions or range clearance activities, as appropriate for the contracted operation.
• Graduate of formal UXO training course of instruction, or Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) assistant courses required. Or graduate of a military EOD school of the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Germany or Australia.
• Divers conducting underwater detection and identification of munitions must have completed both the basic and the underwater portions of Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal (NAVSCOLEOD) training (or foreign equivalent).
