Qualifications

Description

The UXO Technician II identifies and classifies unexploded ordnance (UXO) and discarded military munitions (DMM) and their fuses, as well as excavating and moving munitions acceptable for movement. The UXO Technician II must be able to perform the responsibilities of UXO Sweep Personnel and a UXO Technician I.

Expected Outcomes
  • Properly store explosive materials per applicable guidance.
  • Determine precise field locations using a variety of techniques, including global positioning equipment, topographical maps and compass.
  • Perform field collection procedures to identify contaminated soil.
  • Prepare on-site holding areas to temporarily stow Munitions and Explosives of Concern (MEC) that has an acceptable risk of movement.
  • Operate modes of transportation for transporting UXO, for which the risk of movement has been determined acceptable.
  • Perform limited technical supervision of UXO Sweep Personnel.
  • Escort personnel who are not directly involved in UXO related operations but have activities to perform within exclusion areas.
  • Inspect Material Potentially Presenting an Explosive Hazard (MPPEH) for the presence of explosives safety hazards.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • High School diploma plus prior military EOD experience, or three years experience in response munitions response actions or range clearance activities, as appropriate for the contracted operation.
  • Graduate of formal UXO training course of instruction, or Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) assistant courses required.
  • Divers conducting underwater detection and identification of munitions must have completed both the basic and the underwater portions of Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal (NAVSCOLEOD) training (or foreign equivalent).
  • Problem Sensitivity — The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.

  • Performing General Physical Activities — Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • Identifying Objects, Actions, and Events — Identifying information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.
  • Operate Equipment – Utilizing detection equipment and geophysical sensing equipment to locate UXOs; transport non-hazardous materials using a variety of types of equipment and vehicles.
