Description

Columbia Technology Partners is seeking a Software Engineer 3 to lead front‑end development efforts for complex mission software systems. This role will support the full software development lifecycle in an agile environment, with a focus on building scalable, accessible, and production‑ready user interfaces while providing technical leadership to a team of UI/front‑end developers. The ideal candidate will be hands‑on in development, comfortable working across the stack, and able to collaborate closely with UX/UI designers, system engineers, backend developers, and product stakeholders to deliver high‑quality software solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor a team of UI/front‑end developers, providing technical guidance, code review, development standards, and best practices.
  • Architect, design, and implement scalable, maintainable front‑end solutions using modern frameworks and component‑based development approaches.
  • Translate prototypes, wireframes, and design specifications into responsive, accessible, and production‑ready user interfaces.
  • Analyze user requirements to derive software design, performance, accessibility, and implementation requirements.
  • Collaborate with backend engineers to design and integrate RESTful or GraphQL APIs, ensuring efficient data flow between front‑end and backend systems.
  • Contribute to full‑stack development efforts as needed, including backend services, database interactions, API integration, and deployment support.
  • Debug existing software, resolve defects, address performance bottlenecks, and improve overall application quality and maintainability.
  • Partner with UX/UI designers, system engineers, and product stakeholders to preserve design intent while meeting technical and mission requirements.
  • Establish and enforce front‑end coding standards, documentation practices, component reuse strategies, and software development process improvements.
  • Develop, modify, integrate, and test software components to meet design, performance, interface, and functional requirements.
  • Participate in sprint planning, technical estimation, architectural decision‑making, and agile software development activities.
  • Ensure compliance with accessibility standards, including Section 508 and WCAG, throughout design and development.
  • Recommend new technologies, tools, and processes to improve complex software development efforts.
  • Oversee quality control of developed and modified software while coordinating programming and testing responsibilities across the team.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline and 12+ years of software engineering experience; four additional years of relevant software engineering experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • Proven experience leading, mentoring, or providing technical direction to software development or UI/front‑end development teams.
  • Strong proficiency with modern front‑end frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue, along with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, responsive design, and component‑based architecture.
  • Experience developing, debugging, integrating, testing, and documenting software in complex environments while collaborating with users, system engineers, and technical stakeholders.
Desired Skills
  • Full‑stack development experience, including backend development with technologies such as Node.js, Python, Java, RESTful APIs, GraphQL, databases, or deployment pipelines.
  • Experience working closely with UX/UI teams to implement accessible, user‑centered interfaces that align with design specifications and usability goals.
  • Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GovCloud, and modern agile development practices.
  • Experience with tiered architectural systems, Linux/Ubuntu environments, performance optimization, cross‑browser compatibility, and technical debt reduction.
