Job summary

Google Search, on the Design System team, seeks a UX Engineer to build front-end prototypes and architect prompt engineering pipelines that connect LLM outputs to UI components. You will mentor engineers and designers, define engineering standards, and integrate changes into the design system for scalable, user-focused experiences.

You will work cross-functionally with Engineering and Product Management to deliver high-quality features and contribute to core libraries, driving AI-enabled product

Qualifications

• 8 years of experience in a technical, UX, or design setting.
• 6 years of experience in front-end development or UX engineering.

• Deliver innovative, engaging prototypes using modern front-end technologies.
• Architect prompt engineering pipelines and middleware layers so LLM outputs reliably map to UI components.
• Mentor engineers and designers; establish web engineering excellence standards.
• Contribute to core libraries and define organizational playbooks for AI product development.
• Partner with executive team members to define and promote standards and integrate changes into the design system and workflows.
• Apply inventive, pragmatic approaches to bridge gaps between design goals and model capabilities when standard solutions are insufficient.

Google Search is hiring a UX Engineer for the Search Design System team to develop user-facing features, high-quality front-end prototypes, and architecture that connects AI model output to UI components. You will work cross-functionally with Engineering and Product Management and contribute to the design system that supports global Search experiences.

Key Responsibilities

• Mentor mid-to-executive engineers and designers; establish web engineering excellence standards.
• Contribute to core libraries and define organizational playbooks for AI product development.
• Partner with executive team members to define and promote standards and integrate changes into the design system and workflows.
• Apply inventive, pragmatic approaches to bridge gaps between design goals and model capabilities when standard solutions are insufficient.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in a technical, UX, or design setting, or related experience.
• 6 years of experience in front-end development or UX engineering.

Preferred qualifications

• 8 years of experience in a technical, UX, or design environment, or similar.
• 7 years of technical leadership experience.
• Experience with vibe coding tools (AI Studio, Cursor, Antigravity, Firebase Studio).
• Familiarity working across full tech stacks and production environments.

Compensation & Location

• US: $188000 - $274000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits.
• Candidates will be able to indicate a preferred working location from: Mountain View, CA; New York, NY; San Francisco, CA.
