Job summary

CACI is seeking a thoughtful UX Designer to support the DHS OIG. You will design a data platform landing page, dashboards, and AI-assisted interfaces that are secure, accessible, and easy to use for investigators and auditors.

Collaborating with researchers, developers, and stakeholders, you’ll establish a design system, deliver wireframes and prototypes, and ensure Section 508/WCAG compliance while delivering a cohesive, enterprise-grade user experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 7+ years of UX/product/interaction design.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DHS Public Trust.
• Portfolio demonstrating end-to-end design of complex enterprise, analytical, or data-heavy applications.
• Proficiency with modern design and prototyping tools (Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD).
• Designing accessible interfaces to Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
• Experience working within Agile/Scrum teams.

Responsibilities

• Design UI improvements for OIGChat, including conversational flows and guardrail messaging.
• Produce wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity designs for pilot AI applications.
• Establish and maintain a platform design system with components, typography, color, and iconography.
• Design dashboards, reports, and data visualisations for audit, inspection, investigative, and executive audiences.
• Ensure all designs meet Section 508 and WCAG accessibility requirements.
• Translate research findings into design decisions, iterating with Government Product Owners in Agile sprints.
• Develop visual assets for adoption kits, guides, and training materials.
• Partner with Full Stack Developers on handoff, implementation review, and QA.

The Opportunity:

CACI is seeking a thoughtful UX Designer to support the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of the Inspector General (OIG). This role offers a unique opportunity to shape how federal oversight professionals experience artificial intelligence and advanced analytics, turning powerful but complex capabilities into tools that investigators, auditors, and inspectors reach for every day. As a UX Designer, you will design interfaces that connect a secure enterprise AI and data platforms to the people who depend on it. You will design the data platform landing page and portal that serves as the one-stop entry point for data resources, access processes, dashboards, and training materials. You will improve the OIGChat experience, prototype mission‑specific AI applications, establish a design system that keeps the platform coherent as it grows, and ensure every interface meets federal accessibility standards. Working in close partnership with user researchers, developers, and the Community of Practice, you will make adoption a design outcome rather than an afterthought. Responsibilities:

• Design the DHS OIG data platform landing page and portal that provides users with a single entry point to data resources, access request processes, training materials, dashboards, and support information
• Design user interface improvements for OIGChat, including conversational flows, prompt entry, response and citation rendering, and guardrail messaging that make AI‑assisted analysis approachable for non‑technical users
• Produce wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high‑fidelity designs for pilot AI applications supporting hotline analysis, eDiscovery, trend detection, and investigative workflows
• Establish and maintain a platform design system, including component library, interaction patterns, typography, color, and iconography, so capabilities delivered by different teams feel like one product
• Design dashboards, reports, and data visualisations in partnership with analytics engineers, applying visual analytics and data storytelling principles tailored to audit, inspection, investigative, and executive audiences
• Ensure all designs meet Section 508 and WCAG accessibility requirements, including color contrast, keyboard navigation, screen reader support, and accessible presentation of charts and tables
• Translate user research findings, usability testing results, and Community of Practice feedback into concrete design decisions, iterating with Government Product Owners across Agile sprints
• Develop visual assets and layouts for user adoption kits, quick reference guides, prompting guides, short‑form training videos, and role‑based training materials
• Partner with Full Stack Developers on design handoff, front‑end implementation review, and design quality assurance so delivered interfaces remain faithful to intent
• Document design rationale, patterns, standards, and style guidance to support onboarding, knowledge transfer, and long‑term sustainment

Qualifications:

Required:

• Bachelor's degree + 7 years of experience in user experience design, product design, interaction design, or related field ; equivalencies considered (Master's + 4 years; 13 years with no degree; AA + 9 years)
• U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a DHS Public Trust (Tier 4 / High Risk) fitness determination
• Portfolio demonstrating end‑to‑end design of complex enterprise, analytical, or data‑heavy applications from discovery through delivered product
• Proficiency with modern design and prototyping tools (Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD) and the ability to work fluidly from low‑fidelity wireframes to high‑fidelity interactive prototypes
• Demonstrated experience designing accessible interfaces to Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA standards, including accessible data visualization
• Experience working within Agile/Scrum teams alongside developers and product owners, contributing designs on a sprint cadence and adapting to iterative feedback

Desired:

• Experience designing for AI or large language model interfaces, including conversational UI, prompt design, and patterns for transparency, citation, and explainability
• Hands‑on experience designing dashboards and data visualizations with Power BI, Tableau, D3.js, or comparable tools
• Background in federal government, law enforcement, investigative, audit, or inspector general environments with understanding of mission workflows and sensitive data handling
