Job Title: Utility Worker I-Construction

Shift: Mon-Fri, 6:30am-3:00pm
General Responsibilities:
Assist the Utility Worker II in repairing leaks, performing maintenance repairs, and installing valves; haul off spoil from excavations; backfill and restore streets with temporary paving, lawns, and cleanup at the site. Repair and replace fire hydrants. Install water mains, service lines, and domestic service taps; cut rights-of-way for transmission of water mains.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist Utility Worker II on job sites and train new employees
- Read and interpret maps to locate lines and valves to shut off water
- Operate pumps, pipe-cutting hand tools, air compressors, and radio equipment
- Install bracing, blocking, strap fittings, pipes, valves, and cut and cap mains
- Calculate requirements and requisition concrete, road gravel, fill sand, and asphalt
- Flush mains and service lines after installation or repair of water mains
- Maintain and replace fire hydrants; notify supervisor of part changes; meet with Fire Department officials as needed
- Provide excellent customer service while performing duties
- Replace and restore paving, concrete, sleeves, and landscaping
- Perform disconnects for non-payment and reactivate services
- Maintain traffic control in work areas using flags to ensure safety
- Operate assigned vehicles, keep them clean, report mechanical issues; maintain a valid driver’s license
- Follow all traffic laws and safety policies when driving company vehicles
- Work on a rotating on-call schedule outside regular hours
- Perform all work safely, adhering to safety policies and guidelines issued by management
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Certifications:
- Valid Driver’s License required
- Valid CDL Class A license required
- ADEM Grade 1 Certification preferred
Experience:
At least one (1) year of experience in construction required. Basic computer skills and excellent customer relations and communication skills preferred.

- Work may be loud; indoors and outdoors, exposed to extreme weather conditions
- Work near operating machinery, traffic, and in rural/wooded areas to locate valves
