Job description

UVA Health Surgical Care Riverside is seeking a full-time Anesthesiologist to provide care at their location. This provider may also provide care at additional UVA Health System locations as needed.

Responsibilities
  1. Work in conjunction with the medical director, administrative management, office manager, and nursing staff to facilitate patient management across the healthcare system.
  2. Exercise independent judgment in assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of medical processes or procedures, as credentialed by UVA Health System and associated locations.
  3. Perform and document comprehensive health histories and physical assessments, including emergency procedures like CPR.
  4. Formulate diagnoses, identify problems, and communicate findings to the healthcare team.
  5. Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic studies in consultation with staff.
  6. Perform procedures within scope of practice and institutional policies.
  7. Order medications, treatments, and therapies in accordance with regulations.
  8. Request consultations and initiate referrals to specialists and other healthcare providers.
  9. Evaluate patient responses to interventions.
  10. Provide information and support to patients and families regarding disease and treatment plans.
  11. Participate in on-call responsibilities.
  12. Educate patients and families about procedures, medications, and treatments.
  13. Manage patients according to institutional policies and procedures.
  14. Examine systems and processes, and recommend improvements.
  15. Promote timely and compassionate communication with patients and families.
  16. Report births, deaths, outbreaks, and other critical information as required.
  17. Meet quality standards set by leadership and institutional policies.
  18. Serve on committees and participate in educational activities.
  19. Prepare reports, claims, and correspondence related to professional services.
  20. Follow policies and procedures, including payor requirements.
  21. Accurately assign CPT and ICD codes and close encounters timely.
  22. Implement policies regarding payor requirements to ensure timely claims payment.
  23. Contribute to the education of healthcare professionals and develop educational materials.
  24. Update practice through continuing education and professional development.
  25. Serve as a clinical resource for healthcare practitioners.
  26. Seek opportunities for professional growth.
  27. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Requirements

Education: Graduate of an accredited medical school with MD or DO degree. Completion of an accredited residency in Anesthesiology.

Experience: None required.

Licensure: Board certification in specialty (must be obtained within 2 years if newly graduated), unrestricted license to practice in Virginia, current DEA certificate.

Skills: Proficiency with personal computers and scheduling software.

Physical Demands

Standing for prolonged periods, bending, reaching, repetitive motions, and lifting/pushing/pulling 50-100 lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, infectious materials, and other hazards.
