Essential Job Duties:

The mission of the North Carolina Health Careers Access Program (NC-HCAP) at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is to increase the number of individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who are educated, trained, and employed in the health professions. One of NC-HCAP’s signature programs is the Science Enrichment Preparation (S.E.P.) Program.

The S.E.P. Program is an 8-week honors-level Academic Enrichment Program for rising sophomores and juniors interested in Medicine and Dentistry. The program includes coursework in Physics, Organic Chemistry, Human Physiology, and Quantitative Skills/Biostatistics. Scholars also participate in a summer reading component. The Summer Reading Instructor will lead this component, responsible for curriculum design, facilitating discussions, creating quizzes, grading, and managing group presentations and homework.

Other Responsibilities:
  1. Course Schedule: The course will be held on Tuesdays during the program period.
  2. Special Event: On June 26, 2025, the instructor will co-facilitate an event with the authors from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
  3. In-Class Discussion: On June 27, 2025, the instructor should be prepared to work from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm for a discussion session.
Required Qualifications:
  • Background in English, Literature, Contemporary Reading, or related fields.
  • Experience in teaching, mentoring students, and evaluating student performance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with Disadvantaged Youth.
