Job summary

City and County of Denver seeks a Utility Worker II to perform a range of construction, maintenance, and repair tasks across the city's sanitary and storm systems. You will assist operators, manage safety around traffic, and participate in snow removal, with emphasis on proper safety and teamwork.

The role requires ability to lift and move heavy items, operate tools, and work outdoors in varied weather. A CDL is preferred but not required, and on-the-job training is provided to advance within

Qualifications

  • CDL Permit or CDL B preferred but not required.
  • One year of unskilled labor experience.
  • Willingness to work in inclement weather and road environments.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols around heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform semi-skilled and light-to-heavy physical labor on construction, maintenance, and repair projects for sanitary and storm structures.
  • Assist equipment operators with pre- and post-trip inspections.
  • Work in and around traffic and set up traffic control devices.
  • Assist with sanitary jetting and entering manholes with proper training.
  • Support Vac Trucks activities, including pulling grates and removing debris.
  • Place and remove barricades, cones, and other safety devices.
  • Participate in snow removal to keep city services functioning.

And entering manholes with proper trainingAssist with Vac Trucks which includes pulling grates (~220lbs) from inlets and removing debris.Place and remove barricades, cones, and other traffic control and safety devices in and around work areas for construction and maintenance projects in accordance with traffic regulation requirementParticipate in the snow removalWhat You’ll BringOur ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:CDL Permit or CDL B, preferred but not requiredSafety mindedKnowledge of operating equipment and the use of small to medium hand tools.Willingness to work in inclement weather, road environments, dust, fumes, etc.Desire to follow a career path and promote to other positions within the department, such as Equipment Operator I, Equipment Operator II, etc. (We provide on the job training!)Required Minimum QualificationsEducation requirement: NoneExperience Requirement: One (1) year of experience performing unskilled labor work.Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement.License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.Applicants for commercial driving positions must demonstrate proficiency in the English language.
