Utility Worker II - Wastewater Collection

Join to apply for the Utility Worker II - Wastewater Collection role at City of Pasadena.

Duties:

  1. Performs manual tasks at a semi-skilled level and trains lower-level Utility Workers in the maintenance and construction of wastewater lines.
  2. Works on crew to dig up and replace sewer lines. High level of manual labor required to dig, shore-up, repair and back-fill.
  3. Places pipe in trenches dug by backhoe or trencher.
  4. Adjusts pipe to insure proper slope.
  5. Assemble and disassemble barricades.
  6. Must be skilled in using hand tools.
  7. Use proper safety equipment and procedures at all times.
  8. If a safety factor exists, must decide what precautionary steps to take.
  9. Must be able to work independently; display good judgment; ability to assess situation and make appropriate determination on how to proceed.
  10. Knowledge of and the ability to utilize proper tools and equipment of the trade.
  11. May be subject to call out service after hours.
  12. Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements.
  13. Work the assigned schedule and comply with City timekeeping and attendance policy.
  14. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or GED plus one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Valid Texas CDL Class B and good driving record.
  3. Position may require moderate to heavy lifting and carrying; kneeling, crouching and bending; pushing, pulling and reaching; and standing for prolonged periods of time.

The City of Pasadena offers very generous benefits to all full-time employees. For example:

  • Employee-only medical insurance starts as low as $15 per month and the most expensive Employee & Family plan is less than $350 per month.
  • The City has its own medical clinic staffed with a M.D. and two medical assistants. Employees and their covered dependents over the age of 5 can visit the clinic FREE OF CHARGE.
  • Employees and their covered dependents also have access to Virtual Visits with a medical professional FREE OF CHARGE.
  • The City offers college tuition reimbursement of up to $3,500 per year.
  • As an employee, you will contribute a portion of your salary each pay-period towards your retirement and the City will match your contribution by 200%. Example, if you contribute $100, the City will contribute $200.
  • Civilian employees accumulate vacation at the following rates:
    • Less than 6 years of service - two weeks of vacation per year.
    • From 6 to less than 11 years of service - three weeks of vacation per year.
    • From 11 to less than 21 years of service - four weeks of vacation per year.
    • From 21 to less than 26 years of service - five weeks of vacation per year.
    • From 26 years of service and up - six weeks of vacation per year.
