Job summary

The City of Pasadena, TX is seeking a Utility Worker I to perform manual tasks in maintenance and construction of streets, parks, drainage, and sewer facilities. Workers may be assigned to concrete, asphalt, jet truck, or camera crews and may work irregular hours, holidays, weekends, or call outs.

Responsibilities include preparing sites, forming concrete, backfilling, clearing, televising lines, and assisting in storm sewer work.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid Texas Class C driver's license and a good driving record.
• Able to perform moderate to heavy physical labor (lifting, bending, kneeling, etc.).
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Preferred: knowledge/experience in concrete work, pipe work, or general labor.
• Traffic Control I (Flagging) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and construction tasks on streets, walkways, parks, lawns, and drainage.
• Prepare sites by digging, building forms, tying rebar, and leveling materials for concrete work.
• Shovel, rake, and prepare asphalt surfaces and clean storm sewers as needed.
• Televising and inspecting drainage systems; assist with camera crew tasks.
• Respect safety rules; work irregular hours including holidays and weekends when assigned.

Job description

Duties:

The Utility Worker I p erforms manual tasks involved in the maintenance and construction of streets, walkways, parks, lawns, ditches, storm sewers, and/or sewage plants, either on the concrete crew, asphalt crew, jet truck or camera crew, building, repairing, clearing, and televising streets and drainage. Some positions will require the performance of other essential functions depending upon work location, assignment, or shift. Some positions require working irregular hours, shifts, holidays, weekends, and call outs. Concrete crews prepare concrete, repairs cave-ins and other duties: Prepare site by digging manually. Build forms for concrete by measuring, cutting, nailing, and leveling wood. Tie rebar before pouring concrete. Spread and level sand or rock. Raking, trolling, edging, and floating concrete. Assemble/disassemble wooden forms. Backfill work area. Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements. Works the assigned schedule and complies with the City's timekeeping and attendance policy. Asphalt crews repair streets by installing asphalt and clean storm sewers, drains, culverts other duties: Shovel and rake asphalt until smooth, oil and temper and prep street for asphalt overlay. Camera crews film storm sewers and drains and other duties: Hoists camera into storm sewer and photographs drain lines to determine status of lines.

Qualifications:

Valid Texas Class C driver's license and good driving record . Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor, including lifting and carrying materials, kneeling, crouching and bending; pushing, pulling and reaching; and standing for prolonged periods of time.
