Job summary

Tallahassee Housing Authority is seeking a Utility Worker to perform routine building, cleaning and grounds maintenance under direct supervision. The role involves heavy physical labor and multiple manual tasks across housing sites.

Responsibilities include mowing, landscaping, drain work, painting, minor repairs and loading/unloading as needed. Valid driver’s license required; non-exempt, full-time position with a hourly rate of $16.00.

Responsibilities

• Mows grass and trims shrubbery
• Plants and cultivates flowers
• Removes weeds and prunes trees
• Clean out storm drains
• Repairs Clotheslines
• Clears, cleans and repairs fence lines
• Resolves erosion and drainage problems
• Paints and cleans inside of down housing units
• Pressure washes buildings and sidewalks
• Performs minor repairs to sidewalks and stairs
• Assists with moving and removing furniture from housing units
• Changes out HVAC filters
• Cleans roofs and gutters
• Washes windows and waxes floors as needed
• Removes graffiti from THA floors as needed
• Removes litter from THA facilities as needed
• Understands and follows simple verbal and written directions

Position: Utility Worker

Supervisor: Maintenance Supervisor

Status: Non-Exempt

Salary: $16.00 per hour

Major Function: This is routine, manual work involving a variety of building, cleaning, grounds keeping and maintenance duties. The work may require heavy physical labor during adverse weather conditions. Work is performed under direct supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor.

Essential Duties

• Mows grass and trims shrubbery

Physical Requirements

• Ability to climb ladders or enter crawl spaces in order to gain access to work areas
• Ability to move or carry objects weighing up to 70 pounds
• Ability to move or carry objects weighing more than 70 pounds with assistance of a hand truck or additional persons
• Ability to operate and utilize a variety of carpentry, painting, landscaping and plumbing tools
• Ability to work while standing for extended period of time
• Ability to work in wet, damp, hot, cold, confined or dusty places or adverse weather conditions
• May perform other duties
• Must possess a valid driver's license
