Job summary

Spear D Construction is seeking an experienced Utility Technician II (Pipelayer) to join our underground utilities team in Albuquerque, NM. You will install, repair, and maintain underground piping systems for water, sewer, and storm drain projects while ensuring safety and on-schedule delivery.

The role requires 3+ years in underground utilities or pipelaying, plus experience with small diameter connections and fittings and the ability to read grade stakes and plans.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in underground utilities or pipelaying.
• Experience with small diameter utility connections and fittings.
• Ability to read and understand grade stakes, plans, and elevations.

Responsibilities

• Install underground piping systems including water, sewer, and storm drain.
• Lay pipe, set grade, align pipe, and ensure proper slope and elevation.
• Assist with pipe connections for small diameter utilities, including megalugs, bolts and gaskets, glued pipe, and related fittings.
• Read and understand grade stakes and construction plans.
• Set up and operate laser levels and/or conventional levels.
• Assist with trench box setup, placement, and removal.
• Operate walk-behind rollers and assist with water trucks for compaction and dust control.
• Work safely in and around trenches, shoring systems, and excavation equipment.
• Assist with trench excavation, backfill, and compaction.
• Coordinate with equipment operators, foremen, and crew members.
• Perform daily inspections of tools and equipment.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite at all times.

Job Description

• Strong understanding of pipe materials (PVC, ductile iron, concrete, HDPE, etc.)
• Experience working in trenches and around heavy equipment
• Ability to read and understand grade stakes, plans, and elevations
