Strong precision measurement and welding capabilities are essential. Expected to cross-train in warehouse, shipping, and related areas; prior experience with mills, presses, deburring, and painting equipment is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Two-year technical degree preferred; High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Five or more years experience with machines or machine drawing, assemblies involving mechanical, electrical and hydraulic skills, cutting and welding, and processing and expediting orders.
  • Demonstrated ability to read blue prints and precision instruments.
  • Formal post-secondary welding classes or three or more years of job related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operates machines to produce parts according to quality standards and timelines.
  • Reads blueprints, drawings and BOMs to produce required parts.
  • Sets up and operates machines with precision measurement tooling per ISO 9001 standards.
  • Coordinates with other operators on job plans and instructions.
  • Assembles components and performs welding, testing and adjustments as needed.
  • Maintains safe, clean work area and follows OSHA regulations.
  • Backfills in other departments as needed and supports continuous improvement initiatives.

Utility Technician will operate various production machines such as the saw/shear, press, punch press, press brake, and other machines as required producing quality parts within allowable tolerances. This role inspects parts with precision measuring tools to ensure the parts are within ISO 9001 specifications and standards. This position will cross-train to other areas of manufacturing as needed such as warehouse, shipping, assembly, urethane, and steel room. This position is a floating position and will backfill in departments who are short-handed, and may include working on an off shift.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Operates machines such that Martin tools, products are produced according to established quality standards and timelines; produces Martin parts as requested by other departments including, but not limited to:
    1. Saws and shears materials to various sizes so that it can be welded, formed, punched, machined, etc. by other employees and/or departments.
    2. Reads and interprets blueprints, drawings and bills of materials to produce the required parts.
  • Performs layout, setup and operation of machines (e.g., saws, shears, punch presses, press brake, deburring equipment, etc.) through the use of precision measurement tooling according to ISO 9001 standards.
  • Coordinates plans with other operators regarding specific jobs and instructions.
  • Assembles product components following procedures and drawings; uses tools and methods necessary to produce quality assemblies; performs soldering, wiring, plumbing, testing, brazing, etc. Assembles, installs aligns, fits, testes, and adjusts a variety of subassemblies and parts or auxiliary equipment in the final assembly of the product.
  • Cleans and prepares parts or assemblies for painting or finishing operations; hangs clean parts on paint line. Operates and maintains parts washer and painting equipment; maintains oil and water level and refills as necessary.
  • May be asked to perform welding operations according to blueprint specifications using appropriate cutting and welding.
  • Processes order acknowledgments for daily shipments confirming method of transportation, quantity and dates.
  • Processes and expedites the orders of parts from materials planners; processes work orders by determining which parts are needed, then picking needed parts for building product and/or component; may package parts for distribution.
  • Distributes requested parts to the appropriate location within the plant; organizes work orders in order of need to ensure production schedules are met.
  • Operates a fork lift to process orders in the most expeditious manner; may perform safety checks on department equipment (e.g., for lifts, cranes, etc.).
  • Maintains work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations particular to the working conditions.
  • Maintains necessary inventory of supplies and determines the most efficient and cost-effective use of materials.
  • Complies with OSHA standards as they relate to a safe work environment, training, material safety data sheets, hazardous chemicals, and other safety issues.
  • Supports and assists new employees in the operations of the department and the successful performance of their duties.
  • Establishes individual goals which are aligned with the Company's business strategies and objectives.
  • Participates as a member of the department's team and/or other teams as assigned and contributes in accomplishing the team's goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience & Training:
