Position Overview
- We are seeking a Utility Technician to support production operations by ensuring steel poles and related products meet established quality standards, customer specifications, and applicable industry requirements.
- This hands‑on quality‑focused position performs inspections throughout the manufacturing process, conducts nondestructive testing, maintains detailed quality records, identifies nonconforming products, and works closely with production personnel to promote consistent quality and compliance.
- The ideal candidate has experience in Quality Control, steel fabrication, welding inspection, and/or nondestructive testing, with a strong understanding of AWS D1.1 standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform quality inspections on manufactured steel poles.
- Conduct dimensional audits during production setup.
- Perform visual weld inspections (VT) in accordance with AWS D1.1.
- Perform Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Levels I and II.
- Perform Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Levels I and II.
- Maintain accurate quality documentation, including resource sheets and MT/UT reports.
- Identify, document, and report nonconforming or out-of-specification products.
- Communicate quality concerns to appropriate production and leadership personnel.
- Educate production employees on applicable quality standards and requirements.
- Support production teams with quality-related questions and concerns.
- Perform quality checks on both in‑process and finished products.
- Use quality and inspection tools accurately and consistently.
- Maintain compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
- Complete other quality‑related duties as assigned based on department and production needs.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid driver's license.
- 1-3 years of Quality Control experience.
- Experience working with AWS D1.1 standards.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret measurements and quality requirements.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a production team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality and safety.
Nondestructive Testing Experience
- Candidates should have hands‑on experience with:
- Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) - Level I & II
- Ultrasonic Testing (UT) - Level I & II
- Visual Testing (VT)
- Weld inspection and evaluation
Quality Documentation And Inspection Reporting
- Certification in MT and UT is required.
- CWI Certification is preferred.
- Technical Skills & Inspection Equipment
The successful candidate should be comfortable using a variety of inspection and quality‑control tools, including:
- Weld gauges
- Adjustable fillet weld gauges
- Tape measures
- Girth tape
- V-WAC gauges
- MT yokes
- UT equipment/scopes
- Flashlights
- Paint markers
- QC stamps
- Red tags
- Other applicable quality‑control equipment
- Experience with Epicor is a plus but is not required.
- Knowledge of DOT standards related to traffic and utility structures is also preferred.

Physical & Environmental Requirements
- This is a hands‑on manufacturing position and requires the ability to:
- Stand and/or walk for extended periods.
- Frequently handle, hold, grasp, turn, and manipulate tools, equipment, and materials.
- Occasionally lift, push, pull, or carry tools, equipment, or materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Bend, squat, and crouch as needed to perform inspections.
- Work in varying environmental conditions, including cold, heat, humidity, and inclement weather.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Complete daily equipment inspections and follow all applicable safety procedures.
