Job summary

City of Concord is seeking a skilled technician to collect and test water samples and install, inspect, test, repair, and replace water meters and backflow devices. The role involves responding to customer inquiries, flushing hydrants, and documenting inspection and maintenance reports.

The position requires knowledge of water utility practices, compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, and the ability to obtain necessary certifications within six months of hire.

Qualifications

• Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License preferred or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire. Failure to obtain within 6 months from date of hire may result in termination.
• Ability to obtain North Carolina Grade C Water Distribution Certification within six (6) months of hire. Failure to obtain within 6 months from date of hire may result in termination

Responsibilities

• Tests, repairs, and replaces water meters.
• Responds to customer inquiries or complaints.
• Performs routine flushing of fire hydrants and blow offs at dead end waterlines and other problem areas.
• Completes analysis and reports and documents information from inspections, testing, and maintenance.
• Maintains, calibrates and cleans all necessary equipment for jobs.
• Performs other similar duties as required.

Knowledge:

• Applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations;
• Utility Services principles and practices;
• Equipment and tools of the trade.

Licensing and Certifications:
