Utility Systems Technician – Water Distribution

Join to apply for the Utility Systems Technician – Water Distribution role at City of Concord.

The purpose of this position is to collect and test water samples, and to install, inspect, test, repair, and replace water meters and backflow devices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Test, repair, and replace water meters.
2. Respond to customer inquiries or complaints.
3. Perform routine flushing of fire hydrants and blow-offs at dead-end waterlines and other problem areas.
4. Complete analysis, reports, and document information from inspections, testing, and maintenance.
5. Maintain, calibrate, and clean all necessary equipment for jobs.

Supplemental Functions

• Perform other similar duties as required.

Knowledge

Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations; utility services principles and practices; and equipment and tools of the trade.

Licensing and Certifications

• Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License preferred or the ability to obtain within six months of hire. Failure to obtain within 6 months may result in termination.
• Ability to obtain North Carolina Grade C Water Distribution Certification within six months of hire. Failure to do so may result in termination.

Note: Applicants must meet the City’s criteria for an acceptable driving record.

Required Experience
