City of Laredo is seeking a maintenance worker to help keep the wastewater collection system in good condition. The role involves repairing pipes, rehab of manholes, and performing related tasks in outdoor and field environments.

Applicants must have at least one year of general work experience, with preferred experience in construction, plumbing, or mechanical maintenance. A Texas driver license is required for City business usage.

Essential Functions/ Job Competencies/ Physical Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Enters confined spaces with respiratory equipment to make repairs.
• Checks and assesses conditions of manholes.
• Checks safety conditions within the work place.
• Helps with traffic control when required.
• Takes part in a crew that repairs manholes with concrete and epoxy.
• Assists in the installation of pipe patches.
• Helps with smoke testing of sewer lines.
• Assists in maintaining good communication between staff, visitors, and other business contacts.
• Must follow all rules of telephone courtesy in all telephone communications.
• Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use.
• Performs other related duties as required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Physical Effort Requirements Position will have the following exposures

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

At least one (1) year of general work experience. Experience in construction, plumbing or mechanical maintenance/repair is preferred.
