Job summary

Malcolm Hughes in the UK is seeking professional, ambitious surveyors to join our team and support expanding services under PAS128 guidelines. The role focuses on utility surveying, data collection with total stations and GNSS, and delivering high-quality reports to clients.

You will process GPR data, prepare permits and record cards, liaise with clients, and contribute to projects from field to finish; a full UK driving licence and flexible travel expectations are required.

Qualifications

• Experience as a utility surveyor with PAS128 awareness.
• Proficiency in field data collection using Total stations and GNSS.
• Ability to process, interpret and present survey results (e.g., with AutoCAD).
• Capable of creating written survey reports and permit/record cards per PAS128.
• Willingness to travel and work flexibly, including night shifts if required.

Responsibilities

• Utilise EML/GPR equipment in line with PAS128 standards.
• Carry out field surveys and collect utility marks using total stations and GNSS.
• Process data, interpret results, and prepare client-ready reports.
• Liaise with clients from field to finish and provide professional guidance.
• Assist with post-processing GPR data and CCTV surveys as needed.

Suitable candidates should have at least 2-3 years’ experience working as a utility surveyor with a strong understanding of the PAS128 specification.

Job Description

Suitable candidates should have at least 2-3 years’ experience working as a utility surveyor with a strong understanding of the PAS128 specification.

In Addition, The Following Attributes Are Required

• Working knowledge and able to demonstrate correct use of EML and GPR equipment and accessories in line with PAS128.
• Strong understanding of land survey theory and the ability to use Total stations and GNSS receivers for pickup of utility marks.
• Capable/Proficient in data processing, interpretation, and presentation of survey results (using AutoCAD or other)
• Proficient in the creation of written survey reports, permits to dig, manhole and inspection chamber record cards in accordance with PAS128.
• Experience of working with high density array GPR equipment such as Mala Mira/Stream DP.
• Experience in taking projects from ‘field to finish’ liaising with clients on requirements/specification and providing professional advice.
• Experience of post processing GPR data/and or CCTV surveys is desirable although not essential.
• Effective communication skills.
• Able to work well and contribute as part of a team.
• Ability to use your initiative, problem solve and work to deadlines.
• Good time keeping.
• Flexibility to work away from home for periods and accommodate various shift patterns when required (such as night shift etc).
• A committed attitude and eagerness to learn in a fast-paced industry.
• A full UK driving licence.
