Job summary

Cardinal Civil Contracting, LLC seeks an experienced field leader to supervise multiple pipe crews on underground utility projects. You will coordinate daily construction activities, review plans, and plan manpower and materials to meet schedules while enforcing OSHA safety policies.

The role requires hands-on leadership, ability to resolve field issues, and collaboration with inspectors, engineers, and utility representatives to deliver safe, compliant, and high‑quality installations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; construction management or related education is a plus.
• Minimum 8–10 years of experience in underground utility construction.
• Minimum 3–5 years of supervisory or superintendent-level experience preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of water, sewer, storm drain, and utility installation methods.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and utility plans.
• Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, trench safety requirements, and utility construction standards.
• Experience with GPS, laser levels, grade control systems, and construction management software preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• OSHA 30 certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage and supervise multiple pipe crews and subcontractors on multiple underground utility projects.
• Coordinate daily construction activities to ensure efficient installation of water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and related utility systems.
• Review project plans, specifications, permits, and schedules to ensure work is performed according to contract requirements.
• Plan manpower, equipment, and material needed to maintain project productivity and schedule.
• Enforce company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices.
• Monitor trench safety, shoring, excavation operations, confined space procedures, and utility locates.
• Coordinate inspections with municipalities, engineers, utility companies, and regulatory agencies.
• Track project progress and communicate schedule updates, production rates, and potential issues to project management and the operations manager.
• Ensure proper installation, testing, and documentation of underground utility systems, including pressure testing, leakage testing, and inspections.
• Identify and resolve field issues, conflicts, and unforeseen site conditions.
• Maintain quality control standards and ensure work meets project specifications and company expectations.
• Review/Approve timecards, production reports, equipment usage, and daily field documentation.
• Assist with project planning, budgeting, cost control, and resource allocation.
• Mentor and develop field personnel to improve performance and leadership capabilities.
• Maintain positive relationships with clients, inspectors, engineers, and utility representatives.
