Jimmy Jazz in Greenville, TX is seeking an Utilities Superintendent to direct daily operations of water distribution, sewer collection, and drainage systems. You will lead field crews, manage budgets, coordinate contractors, and ensure regulatory compliance with environmental and safety standards.
The role requires a Texas Class B Water Distribution Operator License (CDL preferred) and at least five years in municipal utilities, with supervisory experience and AMI metering knowledge.
Under limited supervision, the Utilities Superintendent directs and manages the daily operations, maintenance, inspection, and regulatory compliance of the City’s water distribution system, sanitary sewer collection system, drainage facilities, and related public infrastructure. This position ensures that utilities infrastructure is properly constructed, maintained, and operated in accordance with approved standards, environmental regulations, and City policies. The Utilities Superintendent oversees personnel, budget administration, infrastructure inspections, and coordination with contractors, regulatory agencies, and the public to protect the integrity and long-term functionality of essential public utilities systems. It also provides leadership to field crews and ensures safe, efficient, and effective delivery of water distribution services to the community. Reports to the Director of Public Works.
Education: High school diploma or GED required. Additional education or technical training in public administration, construction management, utility management, environmental sciences, or a closely related field preferred.
Experience:Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in municipal water distribution, sanitary sewer collection systems, drainage systems, or related utilities operations, including supervisory or lead experience. Experience with water distribution system operations, maintenance, construction, project management, and AMI metering systems highly preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Licenses/Certifications:Valid Texas Class B Water Distribution Operator License required; Valid Texas Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) preferred or required within a designated period. Must maintain required licenses and certifications. Additional confined space, traffic control, trench safety, or related utility operations preferred.
Water distribution system operations, maintenance, construction, repair, and inspection practices.
Water mains, valves, hydrants, service connections, meters, AMI technology, and related distribution infrastructure.
Construction methods, project management, plans, specifications, materials, equipment, and utility safety practices.
Applicable TCEQ regulations, OSHA requirements, City standards, and industry practices.
City policies and procedures.
Work is performed in both office and field environments with exposure to varying weather conditions, construction sites, confined spaces, traffic hazards, and heavy equipment operations. The position requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, and maneuvering across uneven terrain. The employee must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally and lighter materials frequently. Duties may require responding to emergency situations outside normal business hours and maintaining situational awareness in potentially hazardous environments.
