What is the Sales Marketing Development Program (SMDP)?

Located in Wendell, NC, the Utility Sales & Marketing Development Program (SMDP) is a full-time opportunity lasting 24 months or longer. It is designed to build the technical, commercial, financial, strategic account management, and leadership capabilities needed for a career in Utility sales. Participants learn Siemens products, technologies, processes, and values through formal instruction, hands-on experience, mentorship, and collaboration. This dynamic and engaging program blends instruction with hands-on learning to lay the foundation for a successful career in technical sales at a global industry leader.

Work location and program structure

This is an onsite program in Wendell, NC. Participants are expected to remain in Wendell for the duration of the program.

Phase One (12-months)

Phase One builds a foundation in Siemens products, systems, processes, and essential sales techniques. This phase will consist of four business rotations: transmission, generation, distribution and business development.

Phase Two (12-months)

Upon successful completion of phase one, program participants may be relocated to another regional sales office based on business needs. During phase two, program participants will transition into a high-impact Strategic Residency where they will be embedded within Inside or Outside Sales placement, assuming active business responsibilities while executing a sophisticated, advanced-level training curriculum. This phase is designed to cultivate "Succession Readiness" by bridging foundational knowledge with high-yield operational execution.

You’ll make an impact by:

  • Building knowledge of Siemens’ organization, product offerings, systems, tools, and internal processes.
  • Collaborating with Utility business leaders, sales teams, customers, distributors, product management, and subject matter experts.
  • Preparing sales quotations, strategic account plans, pricing strategies, and models for internal teams, distributors, and customers.
  • Analyzing industry and market dynamics, including go-to-market strategies and channel partnerships.
  • Applying consultative selling, negotiation, networking, and proven sales methodologies in a collaborative environment.
  • Developing networking skills with peers and leadership while applying proven sales methodologies.
  • Engaging in a collaborative, team-based environment alongside fellow business leaders, trainees and peers.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Marketing, or a related field
  • Interest in the electrical industry and aptitude for technical concepts
  • Ability to communicate with customers and internal stakeholders and to manage time and priorities

Requirements

  • Must be willing and able to work in Wendell, NC. There is no relocation or housing stipend for this program
  • Willingness to travel and relocate as required by the program
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company or school sponsorship. This program does not support students on a Visa such as F1, J1, M1 and H1B as well as OPT/CPT

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Selling Certificate or similar credential
  • Internship experience in sales or a technical role
  • Customer-facing experience in sales, business, construction, engineering, or a technical field
  • Experience building professional relationships across teams or with customers

The pay range for this position is $72,000 - $74,000 annually. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
