Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Utility Porter is responsible for the overall cleaning and maintaining the sanitation of all kitchen equipment and kitchen facilities as well as the pick-up and disposal of trash and cardboard.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following and other duties may be assigned as necessary:

  1. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work areas, kitchens, food & beverage venues, and equipment in accordance with Health Department standards
  2. Clean and sanitize kitchen hoods, stoves, grills, ovens, broilers, burner tops, steamers, kettles, braisers, deep fryers, dishwasher machines, stainless steel counters, drains, etc.
  3. Pick up and dispose of trash and cardboard, in all kitchens and F&B venues
  4. Wash, clean, and polish equipment to ensure it is ready for use
  5. Clean entire kitchen areas including but not limited to work areas, freezers, walk-ins, walls, ceilings, hoods, fans, floors, drains, and any areas assigned by management
  6. Conduct various inventory counts when assigned and fill requisition as required
  7. Follow Hazardous Material Management Program procedures for handling and disposing of chemicals, pesticides, blood borne pathogens, etc., including using Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  8. Protect company tools, equipment, machines, and other assets in accordance with Company policies and procedures
  9. Operate cleaning equipment and tools to ensure only clean and sanitary items are used in the kitchen, including operating the dish machine, pot-scrubbing station, and trash compactor
  10. When assigned, assist with all aspects of dish washing & pot washing as well as sorting and cleaning dishes, silverware, glasses, utensils, and assorted items
  11. Act on the biohazard response clean-up team
  12. Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and orderliness in all kitchens, F&B venues, back dock, dumpster, and utility work, as well as back of the house areas
  13. Operate machinery such as pallet jacks, electric pallet jacks, tuggers, forklifts, and mobile golf carts
  14. Temporary or permanent duties and responsibilities may be added to or modified as deemed necessary

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   1. High School Diploma required
  2. Previous experience in stewarding preferred
  3. Ability to maintain a valid Drivers’ License and clean driving record
  4. Some experience with inventory controls and systems, storeroom principles, and procurement processes are preferred
  5. Ability to frequently climb, stand-on and work from a ladder, while working overhead for extended periods
  6. Ability to complete appropriate safety training and certifications to perform work tasks
  7. Develop and maintain positive and productive working relationships with other employees and departments
  8. Excellent interpersonal skills to deal effectively with guests, management, Members, and other outside contacts
  9. Excellent customer service skills
  10. Excellent organizational skills; be able to function under time constraints and deadlines with attention to detail
  11. Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule to include holidays, nights, and weekends
  12. Work in a fast-paced, busy, and somewhat stressful environment

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not have supervisory responsibility.

Member must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state, and local regulations.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and communicate verbally in English. Written communication skills in English may also be required.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The Member must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and must have the ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, stack, crouch, kneel and balance when performing job duties in varying work areas such as confined spaces.
