THE POSITION

Do you possess the trades skills necessary to complement our team of dedicated Facility Services Utility Plant Operators? The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, Clarks Summit State Hospital is actively seeking a mechanically skilled individual to join our Facility Services, Boiler Plant Operator Team as a Utility Plant Operator 1. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be assigned to the Boiler Plant at Clarks Summit State Hospital, function under direct supervision of Utility Plant Supervisor, and work under leadership of Utility Plant Operator 2 on each assigned shift. We maintain high pressure steam boilers and auxiliary equipment for supplying steam heat and hot water to a facility that provides individualized treatment to patients and facilitates each person's return to the community.

You will be responsible for operating our boiler plant, with over $4.2M in new renovations. Work involves monitoring gauges and water flow, making adjustments based on regulation and operational standards to maintain proper temperature and pressure, keeping records of steam production and fuel consumption, making minor repairs to equipment, and communicating and collaborating effectively with the team. This work will rely on your mechanical skills, self-motivation, and independent judgment to complete assignments.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
  • Rotating weekend and holiday schedule; 8 hour shift; weekly schedule is Monday - Friday, rotating weekends & holidays.
  • Travel and overtime as needed.
  • Free parking!

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months of experience as a Utility Plant Helper (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Six months of unskilled work experience assisting in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment, electronic equipment, electrical systems, heavy machinery, motors, engines, drives or hydraulic systems; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession of an active Class C motor vehicle license.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:
