Job summary

Cardinal Civil Contracting is seeking a Foreman to lead a crew on underground utility projects in Kernersville, NC. You will supervise 6–7 workers, review blueprints, operate and coordinate heavy equipment, and ensure safety and quality on site.

You will read drawings, set grades with lasers, manage daily work plans with superintendents, and ensure inspections pass. OSHA training and a valid license are preferred; bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.

Qualifications

• Must bring an established crew of 4–6 workers who will join Cardinal as employees.
• 2–5+ years of experience installing water, sewer, and storm in residential, commercial, and public projects.
• Strong proficiency reading construction drawings; ability to calculate grades and slopes.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Confined Space and Trench Safety training is required.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

Cardinal Civil Contracting is a heavy civil and site development contractor and part of Cardinal Infrastructure Group (Nasdaq: CDNL), a publicly traded infrastructure company with operations across the Carolinas and Atlanta metro and expansion underway into Florida, Georgia, and Alabama.

Key Responsibilities

Crew Leadership

• Supervise a crew of 6–7 workers, assigning daily tasks and tracking attendance
• Train crew members and support their career growth

Planning & Project Execution

• Study blueprints, specifications, and project layouts to determine the best means and methods for pipe installation
• Operate heavy equipment (e.g., excavators) to dig trenches, lower pipe, and backfill after installation

Grade & Alignment

• Use laser instruments, grade rods, transit levels, and other layout tools to set pipe accurately and to the correct slope
• Calculate grades and slopes from construction drawings and field layout

Quality Assurance

• Inspect completed work to ensure it passes all inspections and meets industry standards and engineering specifications
• Complete all required acceptance testing

Safety & Compliance

• Model and enforce Cardinal’s safety program; conduct daily safety briefings and ensure confined space entry and excavation safety protocols are followed
• Comply with company policies and OSHA regulations, including trench and excavation requirements, applicable to the role

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Directly supervises the crew they bring to Cardinal (6–7 total, including pipe layers, operators, and laborers). Responsible for daily assignments, attendance, training, and keeping the crew together and productive

Required Skills, Competencies, Education & Experience

• Must bring an established, experienced crew of 4–6 pipe layers, operators, and laborers who will join Cardinal as employees alongside the Foreman. Crew members must meet Cardinal’s standard hiring requirements
• Demonstrated strong work ethic, integrity, and honesty
• 2–5+ years of experience installing water, sewer, and storm in residential, commercial, and public projects
• Strong proficiency reading construction drawings; ability to calculate grades and slopes
• Ability to confidently operate heavy mobile equipment and use site levels and pipe lasers
• Leadership and communication skills to direct a crew and coordinate with superintendents
• Confined Space and Trench Safety training
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (or a crew member with a valid license)

Preferred Skills, Competencies, Education & Experience

• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
• Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Physical Demands

Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and climb; repeatedly lift and carry up to 50 lbs; operate hand tools and heavy equipment; work in trenches with required protective systems and in all weather extremes

Work Environment

• Active underground utility construction sites, including open trenches, excavations, and work zones near traffic
• Exposure to outdoor weather, heat, cold, noise, dust, mud, and moving heavy equipment. Required PPE is provided and must be worn on all sites
• Schedule: early starts and extended hours; occasional Saturdays as project needs require
