Job summary

Martin Marietta is seeking a Utility Person/QC Specialist to join our team in Rich Patch Quarry, VA. The role focuses on safety, reliability, and efficient cross-functional duties in plant maintenance, production, sampling, and lab testing of aggregates.

The position may require travel between quarry locations and will include operating equipment, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring product quality aligns with specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative and routine maintenance on mobile and plant equipment.
  • Inspect equipment daily and maintain maintenance logs.
  • Operate and clean around plant equipment to maintain roadways and areas.
  • Operate a water truck to limit airborne dust.
  • Participate in production, loading, shipping, and quality control.
  • Maintain housekeeping and safe traffic flow at the site.
  • Train visitors on site guidelines and safety requirements.
  • Coordinate with customers and site personnel on operations and testing.
  • Set up and operate laboratory equipment and instruments as required for QC testing.
  • Record test results and maintain data files in AggQC or forms.
  • Investigate customer technical issues under supervision and assist training.

Job description

Martin Marietta is seeking a Utility Person/QC Specialist to join our team. The ideal individual will be safety conscious, dependable, and motivated. This individual will be responsible for safely and efficiently performing cross-functional duties in plant maintenance, production, and equipment operation in addition to efficiently sampling and performing routine laboratory testing of aggregate material.

This position is responsible for greasing and lubricating plant equipment, maintaining plant housekeeping, operating equipment, and performing routine maintenance on plant and equipment. Additional responsibilities include that all products are consistent with prescribed standards and specifications. This position may require travel from the quarry to other locations.

Location: Rich Patch Quarry, Low Moor, VA 24457.

Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM (subject to change).

A typical day for a Utility Person/QC Specialist may include:

You may be a good fit if you:
  • Performing preventative and routine maintenance on mobile and plant equipment, including cutting and welding under the guidance of the plant manager or other designated personnel
  • Performing daily pre/post-shift inspections on equipment and maintains maintenance log
  • Using a hand shovel and operates a skid steer, front end loader, and other tools to clean around plant equipment and to maintain roadways and parking areas
  • Operating a water truck to limit airborne dust
  • Participating in plant operations including production, loading and shipping, and quality control
  • Maintaining good housekeeping in areas of responsibility and safe traffic flow throughout the site
  • Operating plant-specific mobile equipment such as excavators and haul trucks in a safe manner as needed
  • Operating an automated scale and related computer software program to generate customer tickets
  • Administering site specific training to visitors and ensures site guidelines are followed
  • Directing customers to the appropriate areas of the site
  • Communicating with other site personnel
  • Maintaining professionalism in all situations in the workplace and when working with customers
  • Aiding in the training of co-workers as needed
  • Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Using prescribed standards to determine chemical and/or physical characteristics for quality control purposes and to determine conformity to specifications
  • Setting up, adjusts and operates laboratory equipment and instrumentations such as agitators, scales, ovens, and other lab equipment as required
  • Working around industrial equipment and machinery to obtain material samples from production facilities such as conveyors, stockpiles, rail cars and/or customer sites
  • Reporting and communicates test results internally and externally (DOT and other customers as required)
  • Cleaning, maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment
  • Inspecting stockpiles for proper construction and haul units for cleanliness
  • Maintaining test data files and records test results in AggQC and/or standardized forms
  • Investigating and resolving customer technical problems under the guidance of designated personnel as needed
  • Aiding in the training of co-workers as needed
  • Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications
  • Possess a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent experience to perform the responsibilities associated with this position
  • Have experience in the building materials industry (preferred)
Compensation

We are excited to share the base range for this position is $23.69 - $27.28, exclusive of benefits or bonuses (discretionary and non-discretionary). The offered base hourly compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. Additionally, at Martin Marietta we place a high value on internal pay equity and will consider the compensation for those in similarly situated roles and direct team members. The posted range for this role represents the total reasonable pay range and does not solely represent a hiring range. Therefore, hiring at the top or maximum of the range should not be expected as it would not allow for salary growth opportunities in the role, would diminish promotion value, and may not align with internal equity.
