Job summary

Martin Marietta Materials is hiring a Laborer to support plant and quarry production activities, ensuring safe, efficient operation of material handling systems and equipment upkeep. You will assist with cleaning, lubrication, inspections, and basic mechanical tasks under supervision.

Responsibilities include helping with material flow, reporting issues, and supporting maintenance crews during repairs, while adhering to MSHA standards and site safety policies.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED.
  • Work Experience: 1+ years in Industrial, Construction, or Mining environments preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Production equipment operations, mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting, MSHA compliance and regulations, time management.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine cleaning of plant areas, conveyors, crushers, screens, and other equipment to prevent buildup and maintain operational efficiency.
  • Assist in material handling tasks such as shoveling, sweeping, and washing down areas to ensure safe and clean work environments.
  • Utilize skid steers, shovels, and other essential tools to clear excess materials around the plant and ensure smooth operations.
  • Support operators and maintenance crews in daily tasks and projects assigned.
  • Support maintenance crews during scheduled and emergency repairs.
  • Help with lubrication, minor adjustments, and basic mechanical tasks under supervision.
  • Execute pre- and post-shift inspections (fluids, wear indicators, belts).
  • Log maintenance checks and report issues promptly.
  • Adhere strictly to MSHA safety standards and company policies.
  • Always wear and maintain proper PPE.
  • Participate in safety meetings and report hazards promptly.
  • Assist operators with production tasks, including monitoring material flow and clearing blockages.
  • Provide relief in other areas such as rail unloading, stockpile management, and housekeeping as needed.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by supervisors this may include assisting with roadway maintenance, plant operations, general repairs, and ground upkeep.
  • Flexibility to handle dynamic assignments that support overall site needs.

JOB SUMMARY

This role demands a hands‑on, safety‑focused individual who contributes to production flow, equipment upkeep, and operational efficiency throughout the site.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Work Experience: 1+ years of relevant experience in Industrial, Construction, or Mining Environments preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Production equipment operations, Mechanical aptitude, Troubleshooting, MSHA compliance and regulations, Time management.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. for plant maintenance and equipment servicing. Required to bend, stoop, climb, and reach. You must be able to maintain three points of contact when climbing on/off machinery or on ladders. Strong hand-eye-foot coordination is essential for operating hand/foot controls. You must have good depth perception with or without seeing aid for distances up to 150 feet.

WORKING CONDITIONS

All duties require outside assignments and require periods of work in all weather conditions, cold, wet, dry and dusty. Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 85 dbs.

COMPENSATION and TRANSACTIONS

The hiring range for this position is $30 -$36 exclusive of benefits or bonuses (discretionary and non-discretionary). The offered base compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. Additionally, at Martin Marietta we place a high value on internal pay equity and will consider the compensation for those in similarly situated roles and direct team members. The hiring range for this role represents the base compensation we expect to pay for the position at time of hire and does not represent the total possible base pay of the position.
