Job summary

Martin Marietta is seeking a Utility Person to join our team in Wilson, NC. The role involves safety-conscious, dependable work performing maintenance, equipment operation, and support across plant functions. Typical duties include lubricating machinery, housekeeping, inspections, and assisting in production and shipping.

Hours are 7 AM to 4 PM, with weekends as necessary. Candidates should have a High School Diploma or GED; building materials experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Possess a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent experience to perform the responsibilities associated with this position.
• Experience in the building materials industry is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative and routine maintenance on mobile and plant equipment under the guidance of the plant manager or other designated personnel.
• Perform daily pre/post-shift inspections on equipment and maintain maintenance log.
• Operate hand shovel and skid steer, front end loader, and other tools to clean around plant equipment and maintain roadways.
• Operate a water truck to limit airborne dust.
• Participate in production, loading, shipping, and quality control activities.
• Maintain good housekeeping and safe traffic flow on site.
• Operate plant equipment (e.g., excavators, haul trucks) safely as needed.
• Use automated scale and related computer software to generate customer tickets.
• Provide site training to visitors and direct customers to appropriate areas.

Martin Marietta is seeking a Utility Person to join our team . The ideal individual will be safety conscious, dependable, and motivated. This individual will be responsible for safely and efficiently performing cross‑functional duties in plant maintenance, production, and equipment operation. The utility person is responsible for greasing and lubricating plant equipment, maintaining plant housekeeping, operating equipment, and performing routine maintenance on plant and equipment.

Hours: 7AM - 4PM, weekends as necessary

A typical day for a (n) Utility Person m ay include:

Performing preventative and routine maintenance on mobile and plant equipment, including cutting and welding under the guidance of the plant manager or other designated personnel

Performing daily pre/post-shift inspections on equipment and maintains maintenance log

Using a hand shovel and operates a skid steer, front end loader, and other tools to clean around plant equipment and to maintain roadways and parking area

Operating a water truck to limit airborne dust

Participating in plant operations including production, loading and shipping, and quality control

Maintaining good housekeeping in areas of responsibility and safe traffic flow throughout the site

Operating plant‑specific mobile equipment such as excavators and haul trucks in a safe manner as needed

Operating an automated scale and related computer software program to generate customer tickets

Administering site specific training to visitors and ensures site guidelines are followed

Directing customers to the appropriate areas of the site

Maintaining accurate records of aggregate tonnage and sales activities on a daily/weekly/monthly basis and prepares basic reports

Communicating with other site personnel to ensure proper recording of sales activities and fulfillment of customer needs

Answering customer calls and communicates pricing, product descriptions, and product availability

Maintaining professionalism in all situations in the workplace and when working with customers

Aiding in the training of co‑workers as needed

Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor

You may be a good fit if you :

Possess a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent experience to perform the responsibilities associated with this position

Have experience in the building materials industry ( preferred )
