Job summary

Martin Marietta is seeking a Safety-conscious Utility Person to join our Rock Hill team. The role covers maintenance, production support, and equipment operation in a quarry setting.

The ideal candidate will be dependable, motivated, and capable of performing cross-functional duties, including greasing, inspections, and basic reporting. Hours include weekdays and occasional Saturdays, with onsite responsibilities throughout Rock Hill Quarry.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in the building materials industry preferred.
  • Ability to perform plant maintenance and basic operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative and routine maintenance on mobile and plant equipment under supervision.
  • Conduct daily pre/post-shift inspections and maintain maintenance logs.
  • Operate skid steer, front end loader and other tools to clean around equipment and maintain roadways.
  • Operate a water truck to limit airborne dust and support plant operations.
  • Assist in production, loading, shipping and quality control activities.
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas and ensure safe traffic flow onsite.
  • Report and document maintenance and operational activities.

What to expect

Martin Marietta is seeking a Utility Person to join our team. The ideal individual will be safety conscious, dependable, and motivated. This individual will be responsible for safely and efficiently performing cross-functional duties in plant maintenance, production, and equipment operation. The utility person is responsible for greasing and lubricating plant equipment, maintaining plant housekeeping, operating equipment, and performing routine maintenance on plant and equipment.

Rock Hill Quarry, Rock Hill, South Carolina

Hours: Monday - Friday 6AM - 5PM and two Saturdays 6AM - 2PM

A typical day for a(n) Utility Person may include:
  • Performing preventative and routine maintenance on mobile and plant equipment, including cutting and welding under the guidance of the plant manager or other designated personnel
  • Performing daily pre/post-shift inspections on equipment and maintains maintenance log
  • Using a hand shovel and operates a skid steer, front end loader, and other tools to clean around plant equipment and to maintain roadways and parking areas
  • Operating a water truck to limit airborne dust
  • Participating in plant operations including production, loading and shipping, and quality control
  • Maintaining good housekeeping in areas of responsibility and safe traffic flow throughout the site
  • Operating plant‑specific mobile equipment such as excavators and haul trucks in a safe manner as needed
  • Operating an automated scale and related computer software program to generate customer tickets
  • Administering site specific training to visitors and ensures site guidelines are followed
  • Directing customers to the appropriate areas of the site
  • Maintaining accurate records of aggregate tonnage and sales activities on a daily/weekly/monthly basis and prepares basic reports
  • Communicating with other site personnel to ensure proper recording of sales activities and fulfillment of customer needs
  • Answering customer calls and communicates pricing, product descriptions, and product availability
  • Maintaining professionalism in all situations in the workplace and when working with customers
  • Aiding in the training of co‑workers as needed
  • Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor
You may be a good fit if you:
  • Possess a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent experience to perform the responsibilities associated with this position
  • Have experience in the building materials industry (preferred)
