Job summary

Martin Marietta seeks a Utility Person for North East Quarry in North East, Maryland. You will safely perform cross-functional duties in plant maintenance, production, and equipment operation, including greasing, housekeeping, and basic maintenance on plant equipment.

The role supports production, loading, shipping, and quality control, with a focus on safe practices and effective site operations. A high school diploma or GED is required, with building materials experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performing preventative and routine maintenance on mobile and plant equipment.

• Operating equipment such as skid steers and loaders to support plant operations.
• Assisting with production, loading, shipping and quality control tasks.
• Maintaining good housekeeping and safe traffic flow at the site.
• Operating plant-specific mobile equipment as needed.
• Generating customer tickets using an automated scale and software.
• Training visitors on site guidelines and directing customers to appropriate areas.
• Maintaining daily/weekly/monthly records of tonnage and sales activity.

Job description

What to expect:

Martin Marietta is seeking a Utility Person to join our team. The ideal individual will be safety conscious, dependable, and motivated. This individual will be responsible for safely and efficiently performing cross-functional duties in plant maintenance, production, and equipment operation. The utility person is responsible for greasing and lubricating plant equipment, maintaining plant housekeeping, operating equipment, and performing routine maintenance on plant and equipment.

North East Quarry

North East, Maryland

Hours: 10AM - 6PM, weekends as necessary

Typical day for a Utility Person may include:

• Performing preventative and routine maintenance on mobile and plant equipment, including cutting and welding under the guidance of the plant manager or other designated personnel

• Performing daily pre/post-shift inspections on equipment and maintains maintenance log

• Using a hand shovel and operates a skid steer, front end loader, and other tools to clean around plant equipment and to maintain roadways and parking area

• Operating a water truck to limit airborne dust

• Participating in plant operations including production, loading and shipping, and quality control

• Maintaining good housekeeping in areas of responsibility and safe traffic flow throughout the site

• Operating plant-specific mobile equipment such as excavators and haul trucks in a safe manner as needed

• Operating an automated scale and related computer software program to generate customer tickets

• Administering site specific training to visitors and ensures site guidelines are followed

• Directing customers to the appropriate areas of the site

• Maintaining accurate records of aggregate tonnage and sales activities on a daily/weekly/monthly basis and prepares basic reports

• Communicating with other site personnel to ensure proper recording of sales activities and fulfillment of customer needs

• Answering customer calls and communicates pricing, product descriptions, and product availability

• Maintaining professionalism in all situations in the workplace and when working with customers

• Aiding in the training of co-workers as needed

• Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor

You may be a good fit if you:

• Possess a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent experience to perform the responsibilities associated with this position

• Have experience in the building materials industry (preferred)

We are excited to share the base range for this position is $24.25 - $30.00, exclusive of benefits or bonuses (discretionary and non-discretionary). The offered base hourly compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. Additionally, at Martin Marietta we place a high value on internal pay equity and will consider the compensation for those in similarly situated roles and direct team members. The posted range for this role represents the total reasonable pay range and does not solely represent a hiring range. Therefore, hiring at the top or maximum of the range should not be expected as it would not allow for salary growth opportunities in the role, would diminish promotion value, and may not align with internal equity.
