Job description

The Utility Operator will operate various entry-level sawmill equipment and be responsible for completing clean-up of assigned areas, such as laying sticks, using walk-behind blowers, handheld air compressor blower wands, and manual tools like brooms and shovels to clean up loose bark, chips, and sawdust in the sawmill and planer mill production areas.

Education & Qualification

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma/Equivalent
  • Manufacturing/warehouse/lumber operations preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety
  • Excellent attendance record
  • Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions from supervisors
  • Able to perform the job with limited supervision
  • Use standard lockout procedures when appropriate for machine centers
  • Keep all machines clean of sawdust and other fibers

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work and operate in industrial conditions (warm/hot, dusty/dirty, noisy, with heavy machinery or elevated surfaces) with proper safety training
  • Perform tasks such as walking, climbing, or standing for long periods
  • Ability to bend, twist, kneel, squat, climb, and stretch with body, arms, and legs
  • Able to lift 50 lbs throughout the shift
  • Able to carry 20 lbs occasionally over a maximum distance of 8 feet during a 10–12-hour shift
