Job description

High Steel Service Centerhas a 200,000-square-foot facility with 150,000 tons of capacity. A full-line metal processor and distributor, High Steel Service Center offers carbon steel, aluminum flat rolled, and stainless steel products.

We are actively seeking a utility operator to join our 2nd-shift operations.

2nd shift: Monday - Friday from 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM, as well as overtime based on business demands.

Positions start around $19.50/hr, or higher, based on experience, and pay a $3.00/hr shift differential.

Utility Operatorsperform a variety of duties including truck loading, order pulling, skid building, machine operating and general material handling. They will be required to operate overhead cranes, side-loaders and forklifts to move materials around the facility. The utility operator will be required to rotate through positions on a regular basis as needed to meet customer demand.

Areas of responsibilityfor our utility operators:

  • Operate material handling equipment to mover, lift, or load materials.
  • Trains, guides, and provides ongoing assistance to new hires and other team members.
  • Oversee the assistance of a helper for processing operations, as needed.
  • Use banders, computer workstations, calculator, small hand and power tools.
  • Accurately complete any necessary paperwork.
  • Measure and check materials for proper specifications
  • Operate a variety of machines on an as needed basis

Work experience and additional qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Proficient in basic math, including fractions and decimals
  • Ability to work as part of a team and as an individual contributor
  • Previous manufacturing or warehousing experience, required
  • Previous experience operating a side-loader, forklift, and/or overhead crane, required
  • Ability to drive a tractor trailer, preferred
  • Previous experience with truck loading, preferred but not required
  • Valid PA driver's license is required
  • Ability to work overtime, up to 60 hours per week, is required
