High Steel Service Center Utility Operator Job Description

High Steel Service Center has a 200,000-square-foot facility with a capacity of 150,000 tons. As a full-line metal processor and distributor, we offer carbon steel, aluminum flat rolled, and stainless steel products.

We are actively seeking a Utility Operator to join our 2nd-shift operations.

Shift Details

2nd shift: Monday - Friday, from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, with overtime based on business demands.

Compensation

Positions start around $19.50/hr, or higher depending on experience, plus a $3.00/hr shift differential.

Job Responsibilities

Utility Operators perform duties including truck loading, order pulling, skid building, machine operation, and general material handling. They operate overhead cranes, side-loaders, and forklifts to move materials. Rotating through different positions is required to meet customer demands.

Areas of Responsibility

• Operate material handling equipment to move, lift, or load materials.
• Train and assist new hires and team members.
• Oversee helpers during processing operations as needed.
• Use banders, computer workstations, calculators, and hand/power tools.
• Complete paperwork accurately.
• Measure and check materials for specifications.
• Operate various machines on an as-needed basis.

Qualifications and Experience

• High school diploma or GED.
• Proficient in basic math, including fractions and decimals.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Previous manufacturing or warehousing experience required.
• Experience operating side-loaders, forklifts, and overhead cranes required.
• Ability to drive a tractor trailer is preferred.
• Truck loading experience is preferred.
• Valid PA driver’s license required.
• Ability to work overtime, up to 60 hours per week, is required.
