Job summary

Sealed Air in Romeoville, IL is seeking a Utility Operator for the night shift to support bag lines and ensure high-quality, low-scrap production. The role reports to the Shift Leader and requires working 3:00 PM to 1:00 AM, Monday through Friday, with a $22.50 hourly rate and a $2.00 shift premium.

Responsibilities include supplying raw materials, stocking and cleaning, assisting QA and maintenance, and helping train new staff.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work safely and effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Previous manufacturing experience.
  • Forklift certification (or the ability to obtain it) preferred
  • Ability to stand for 12 hours; Lift up to 26 lbs regularly; climb ladders

Responsibilities

  • Make the allowable amount of box bottoms and lids according to specification for your shift and to start the next shift, and keep the machines stocked with the allowable amount of box bottoms
  • Supply all raw materials to the bag & box production area
  • Empty all scrap containers once per shift or as needed
  • Bale scrap as required
  • Assist operators and QA to assure that quality standards are upheld and that any suspect or defective product is appropriately destroyed or placed on hold for the Quality Facilitator's review and decision
  • Work as a valuable team member throughout the production room to accomplish the business goals
  • Provide feedback and suggestions for improvements
  • Communicate in a positive and respectful manner to resolve all issues
  • Complete all documentation accurately
  • Ask for help when the need arises
  • Assist in the training of other personnel in the material handling department

Position Overview

The Utility Operator position is responsible for supporting the bag lines to safely deliver the highest quality products at the best efficiency and lowest scrap possible through the use of effective manufacturing methods. The Utility Operator reports to the Shift Leader.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Make the allowable amount of box bottoms and lids according to specification for your shift and to start the next shift, and keep the machines stocked with the allowable amount of box bottoms
  • When pallets are full, place them in the drop area of the warehouse for shipping/receiving to put away
  • Supply all raw materials to the bag & box production area
  • Empty all scrap containers once per shift or as needed
  • Bale scrap as required
  • Responsible for doing scheduled PM work to material handling equipment
  • Assist operators and QA to assure that quality standards are upheld and that any suspect or defective product is appropriately destroyed or placed on hold for the Quality Facilitator's review and decision
  • Work as a valuable team member throughout the production room to accomplish the business goals:
  • Help inspector/packers and bag machine operators as needed
  • Assist and work closely with Quality, Maintenance, and Technical resources to ensure that issues are being addressed to optimize the performance of the line
  • Provide feedback and suggestions for improvements
  • Communicate in a positive and respectful manner to resolve all issues
  • Complete all documentation accurately
  • Ask for help when the need arises
  • Assist in the training of other personnel in the material handling department
