Job summary

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Lincoln, NE is seeking a Utility Meter Technician I to troubleshoot, install, and maintain metering devices across water, gas, and electrical systems. You will configure devices, test meters, and support outage activities, with emphasis on documentation and safety.

Ideal candidates have an associate degree or related training, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work outside normal hours as needed. A valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent experience.
• No minimum experience required.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Comfortable around electricity, steam, natural gas, and water systems.
• Good documentation and record-keeping abilities.
• Strong mechanical aptitude.
• Familiarity with CMMS is preferred.
• Willingness to respond to emergencies and outside hours.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, maintain, calibrate, repair, install, and replace metering devices.
• Configure and test devices.
• Repair/install/replace electric meters, meter sockets, CTs, wiring.
• Assist with natural gas meters—deployment, troubleshooting, evaluation.
• Program BTU meters to standards and collect data for billing.
• Document work in internal work management system.
• Perform instrument calibrations on flow, pressure, temp indicators.
• Support outages and coordinate with contractors.
• Interpret drawings, manuals, blueprints and software.
• Maintain inventory of spare parts and test equipment.
• Participate in metering system PM program.
• Assist in scheduling outages.
