Job summary

City of Florence in South Carolina is seeking a Utility Maintenance Technician I to inspect, maintain, and repair the City's wastewater treatment plants, water production facilities, and other utilities.

Qualified candidates should have a high school diploma or GED with related training, be able to obtain a South Carolina Class A CDL, and pass the Biological Wastewater Operator Certification Exam D within two years of hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with training equivalent to one year of electromechanical maintenance.
• Ability to pass Biological Wastewater Operator Certification Exam D within two years of hire.
• Valid South Carolina Class A CDL or ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, and repair the City's wastewater treatment plants, water production plants, pump stations, lift stations, and related facilities.
• Work on electrical equipment, instrumentation, soft starts, VFDs, PLCs, SCADA, pumps, motors, and other mechanical components.

Education

Biological Wastewater Operator Certification Exam D within 2 years of hire

Utility Maintenance Technician I
$25.01/hour; 40 hours/week

• High school diploma or GED supplemented with formal training, special courses, or self-education that is equivalent to one year of experience in industrial, commercial, and/or residential electromechanical maintenance


• Must possess or have the ability to pass Biological Wastewater Operator Certification Exam “D” within two (2) years of hire


• Valid South Carolina Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain one is expected

The Utility Maintenance Technician I performs skilled work in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of the City’s wastewater treatment plants, water production plants, pump stations, lift stations, and all other City facilities such as athletic complexes, office spaces, and community centers. The technician would be required to perform technical work as required on electrical equipment, instrumentation, soft starts, variable frequency drives (VFD), programmable logic controllers (PLC), SCADA, pumps, motors, and other mechanical components. The Utility Maintenance Technician I works under the direction of the Utility Maintenance Manager but is expected to be capable of working independently to complete projects safely while following City procedures and guidelines.
