Brevard County is seeking a skilled supervisor for the Barefoot Bay Water and Wastewater division. The role involves overseeing installation and maintenance of water meters and repairs to water and wastewater infrastructure, with responsibility for a team of line and mechanic staff.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or equivalent, 4 years of field experience (1 year in supervision), and professional licenses including Florida Class B CDL and FDEP Level III water operator

Qualifications

  • Requires High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 years of field experience in water/wastewater line maintenance/construction, with at least 1 year in a supervisory capacity.
  • Must possess valid Florida Class B CDL and maintain it during the term of employment.
  • Must hold or obtain FDEP Level III+ Water Distribution Operator license and maintain it during employment.
  • Must obtain FDOT MOT/TTC Intermediate certification within 12 months and maintain it during employment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise installation and maintenance of water meters; repair water and wastewater lines, wet wells, manholes, lift stations and water pumps.
  • Provide supervision to line and mechanic staff and coordinate daily work and safety procedures.

$25.18 to $27.70 hourly. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. South Area/Barefoot Bay. Work schedule is Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. Performs skilled crafts and trades work supervising the installation and maintenance to water meters, repair of water and wastewater lines, wet wells, manholes, lift station equipment, and water pumps. Supervision is provided to line and mechanic staff.

REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or its equivalent, as required by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), PLUS four (4) years of progressively responsible field experience in water and wastewater line maintenance and/or construction, which includes one (1) year in a supervisory or lead worker capacity; OR one (1) year as a Brevard County Utility System Specialist III. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a current Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Level III or higher Water Distribution System Operator license and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must possess, or obtain within twelve (12) months of employment, a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Maintenance of Traffic (MOT)/Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) Intermediate certification and maintain said certification during the term of employment. Must be able to satisfactorily complete all required mandatory County training. Must be physically capable at all times of properly wearing and utilizing all required personal protective equipment (PPE), which may include respiratory protection. Must be able to work planned and unplanned overtime and standby and call-out duties on a rotational basis, including nights, weekends, and holidays. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
